Esa1178 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hello all! My Home field is KSAC, 1 nm from my house. Started for my PPL in 1988 in KSAN. Lots of life interruptions until now. So far, 30hrs in the C172SP. Last lesson in 2007. I have a couple of questions: I'd like to continue my C172SP lessons to completion, but I am curious about a Recreational License. Do the current student hours carry over, or at least apply some credit? If I decide to get my PPL also, will any accrued hours with a Recreational be honored? Trying to find a list of 'common' aircraft that are used with a Recreational License.. Can anyone confirm that Lodi, CA is my nearest Recreational School? Many thanks! Mark H. KSAC
rgmwa Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Mark, there is currently no RPL in the USA, but they do have a Sport Pilot Licence which allows you to fly LSA aircraft with a MTOW of 1320 lbs, without a Class 3 medical. I'm fairly sure your previous 172 hours would count. I suggest you contact the EAA to find out more about the SPL.https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/aviation-communities-and-interests/aviation-beginners-and-newcomers/learn-how-to-fly-and-discover-the-freedom-of-flight/how-to-become-a-sport-pilot rgmwa 1
Esa1178 Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Thanks a bunch guys! Would you consider the Evektor SportStar a good aircraft to train in? Mark
rgmwa Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I've only got very limited experience in a Sportstar - just half an hour's stick time in a friend's aircraft. However I found it easy to fly, even though all my time to date has been in Cessna's. It's an LSA so can be flown with an SPL, and should be fine to train in. rgmwa
Downunder Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Lots of sportstars around. Very popular with the schools, so I'd hazard a guess they would be fine to train in.....
