facthunter Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 It's a situation of denial, which inflames the Chinese frequently. Nobody has clean hands. The US acted to prevent Japan accessing oil and rubber early in the 30's. Nev
Old Koreelah Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 The shame of the Japanese people today is so great that they simply will not talk about the war unless pushed quite hard. A few old Japanese soldiers speak with great regret about their atrocious behaviour in China. A pity they don't get wider coverage in Japan. I fear the current Japanese government would rather risk war than say sorry to China. Reconciliation is something some African countries could teach them. 2

The US acted to prevent Japan accessing oil and rubber early in the 30's. Nev Knowing the Japanese could not back down, the US pretty well forcing them into war to secure industrial resources. Much as I admire Roosevelt, he did all he could to manipulate America into the war. As the US knew, the British had already learned that aircraft carriers are more useful than battleships. I suspect he knew the Japanese would attack and made sure his carriers were out of harm's way. We can be thankful he did.
facthunter Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Interesting to speculate on Pearl Harbour. Was it Tojo who said "I fear we have awakened a sleeping Tiger" ? I've edited it.... Hirohito was the Emperor. Nev 1
Old Koreelah Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I Yes, we think we suffered, but this is Russia's equivalent to our "Unknown Soldier". "The Motherland Calls" statue has 87,000 unknown soldiers buried below it. It's 279 feet tall and you can see the scale by the human figures at the bottom. "Enemy at the Gates" is a movie worth watching.
turboplanner Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Yes, Vasiliy Zaitsev was one of the best snipers in the world at the seige of Stalingrad/Vologograd, 225 credited kills in a couple of months at the seige alone, and a career total of about 400. In reality there was no love story and no duel with the German sniper, but he pioneered the sniper tactics still used by Russia today. He only used a 3.5 power scope rifle which with my skills wouldn't be worth putting on a rifle. 1

Hirohito was the Emperor. Nev The full quote was “I fear we have awakened as sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve.” and is usually attributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. 1

Just watched "American Sniper", the story on Chris Kyle, the best ever US sniper with 160 confirmed kills out of 225 possibles, in four tours of Iraq. The insurgents put an $80,000.0 bounty on his head. He used a .338 - a big gun! His best kill was at 1.92 kilometres It's an emotional film
Yenn Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Thats one thing the Yanks are good at. Killing people, and if they can't kill them, they make sure they can't progress. maybe there is a change coming I hear that Barak Obama wants to normalise relations with Cuba.
facthunter Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Nice marksmanship but it PEOPLE you are talking about. Bit sickening when considered. Nev 1
