Old Koreelah Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 You may find that doctor's waiting rooms clear out any unapproved magazines at the end of each day. They usually have an approved list (Womens' Day?) and staff have to police this. Waiting room magazines tell you a lot about the place. Trashy women's magazines presumably mean the Doc doesn't care and the staff bring in their used mags. Car and yachting mags probably tell you what the doc does in his spare time. National Geographics and charity magazines: he is interested in the world. I once went to a lot of trouble to see a highly-recommended specialist. His waiting room contained only magazines dedicated to making more money, tax avoidance and high-end antiques. I left. 1 3

winsor68 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 It was stopped, the costs were greater than the income and with our deficit budget we need to control cost > income where ever possible. I'm not convinced this is what happened. It was very shortly after they changed the name and sold it off that it stopped being reliably stocked by newsagents. Not sure why but that is what my experience tells me... and I am a newsagent browser and magazine buyer. Not sure of the economics but one thing to me seems certain...if you don't put the leftover copies (the ones members don't get) up for sale they are worth $0 profit.
facthunter Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 It is my understanding they had to refund unsold copies, But why not send them on to schools ? (Prior arranged where they are appreciated) Nev 1 1
Guernsey Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 'Sport Pilot' for sporty types such as pylon racing and aerobatics. (expensive aircraft). 'Recreational Flying' for recreational flyers. We've had all the arguments for and against but I still believe it could have had some bearing, just my two bobs worth. Alan. 2 1
Downunder Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 "Sport" can be seen as a competitive pursuit I guess... Funnily enough, the RAA has nothing of a competitive nature available at all....
Keith Page Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I do that already FT and by the way, can you just imagine me lugging my desk-top computer, keyboard and monitor and setting it all up on the Recreational Flying page for all to see, while I just get a quick "short back and sides" for even less RAAus promotional time? Yes planedriver, Some people do not think what they are saying--- I had a grin when I read that one about setting up your computer, that was a good answer. Regards KP.

What about the sport of competitive posting on this site? We have seen blood, tears, lifetime bans, and even seen the umpire lose it on occasion. A most entertaining sport. And I suspect some performance enhancing drugs have been used at times. 2 1 2 2

The umpire is after all, just human, oh and by the way, there are no life time bans in place but people have to have some degree of decency and play by the rules like everyone else does 1 1

They have been.. Sin binned.. Sent off.. Whistle has been blown for full time to call a halt to spite.. At times there is sledging. That is sport and called ...... "During the Heat of The Game". .??? Yeah - try and consider an FAI ultralight record and you find that RAAuS isn't affiliated to the Australian representative to FAI ... and the actual Australian rep does not even both responding to requests from ultralight pilots ... 1
ayavner Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 well there's the CAGIT trophy, but I can't afford to go to WA and back just to get it. I like the idea though, and I have had a competitive tingle race through me on occasion when i've read the stories. 1 1
planedriver Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 The umpire is after all, just human, Of course! Like a few others here. Not many, I said just a few.
kasper Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 On a personal note i would like to see the mag back in the newsagents ... not because its a good sales vehicle but just because my last magazine was in Oct and I could at least have a idea whats going on if I could buy one because the RAA don't seem bothered to send them to me at the moment :-( Wonder who I pi###ed off in the office?
fly_tornado Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 if you don't contact the office, they won't know there is a problem.
kasper Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 if you don't contact the office, they won't know there is a problem. But if you've contacted the office and updated the address and nothing has arrived at either the old (with redirect) or new since Oct its a bit hard to see what else to do ...
fly_tornado Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 lol contact your local rep and see if they can fix it, who's your local rep?
Guest Andys@coffs Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I'd be very surprised if you rang them again and explained the issue and the circumstances (ie this is take 2) if it didn't get resolved immediately. There is a test process that the editor can put in place with Australia post to try and find out why and or where things are coming off the rails. I could get involved if you want me too, but that just puts me as man in the middle.....Try once more if you will and let me know if that fails for whatever reason. Andy
