shags_j Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 You don't want to legislate against stuff. It becomes too restrictive. Better education, training and advertising of this sort of stuff is a better way of doing it. Mind you I can't believe someone would be that stupid. I can understand lapses in judgement but this is a whole other level. 1
David Isaac Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 No ... you cannot legislate against stupidity, it is a human virtue. But that doesn't stop us from trying ... and the consequences are, we all suffer from stupid legislation. 1 4
turboplanner Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 What I've been trying to get across for several years, with apparently very little success is that AustralianGovernments came to this conclusion in the mid 1980's. They would appoint Health Inspectors who would go around inspecting restaurants, be given cups of coffee and escorted around the dirty parts, sign an approval certificate and next week someone would get food poisoning, and the inspector would get the blame. Today no new legislation is required for "selfies" or the next fad, the victims just sue the stupid. Easy. Gradually the stupid get training, get the message and the situation improves. It doesn't matter if they make a habit of breaking the rules;when something goes wrong there they are in the spotlight with no one else to blame but themselves. 1
Gnarly Gnu Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Taking selfies is a sign of mental disorder, so should have been getting treatment instead of flying. 1
Guest asmol Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 ""A GoPro camera mounted to the plane's windshield recorded Singh and several other passengers taking selfies"" Ahh, I am training now in a Cessna 150 and i dont know how you could get "Several Other Passengers taking selfies" Great reporting, again.
fly_tornado Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Flying low killed them not the selfies. Flying low has killed a lot of pilots. 1
facthunter Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Hitting something is the problem. It's all sort of OK up till then. Nev 1 2
aro Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Ahh, I am training now in a Cessna 150 and i dont know how you could get "Several Other Passengers taking selfies" Multiple flights. According to the report I read, there wasn't even direct evidence of taking selfies on the accident flight, but it was concluded that it was the likely cause due to selfies on multiple previous flights.
Cooda Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 So his not being rated for night or instrument flying can be discounted as an issue?
ayavner Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Now THIS is more like it: http://www.smh.com.au/world/small-plane-gently-merges-onto-highway-as-engine-fails-20150130-132hii.html 1 1
flying dog Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Hang on! Ok, the "go pro" camera survived. They got sound and video (looking out the window I would hope.) How the &^*&^* can they say they "heard" people taking selfies? What is to say they weren't taking pictures out the window? However: Doing that at MIDNIGHT does seem a bit silly.
jeffd Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 well if he wasnt endorsed to instrument fly at night or take passengers etc ,wouldnt that be mistake number 1 ? just askin 1
Teckair Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 ""A GoPro camera mounted to the plane's windshield recorded Singh and several other passengers taking selfies""Ahh, I am training now in a Cessna 150 and i dont know how you could get "Several Other Passengers taking selfies" Great reporting, again. If you read it properly you will see they did more than one flight. 1
flying dog Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Granted he did more than one flight. But all data from previous flights and what passengers did (or didn't do) is kinda null and void. The only data which is of importance is that of the last flight. 1
Teckair Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I only mentioned the multiple flights in response to someone's post about more than one pax in a C150. My guess is this person is one of those type that will eliminate themselves what ever happens, the Darwin Theory at work.
flying dog Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Teck, I didn't mean to sound like I was having a go at you. I was only stating the error with how the "CVR" (Camera) was misquoted in what information it was giving, etc.
turboplanner Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 You can see from the twists and turns of this thread why governments are getting out of prescribing offences and penalties and leaving it up to those involved to sort it out financially.

David Isaac Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 And by protecting idiots from themselves you end up with more of them and they breed and vote. Damn right with that one Richard.
facthunter Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Go on. They wouldn't know what causes babies and as well as voting. why would they be so clever ? Nev 2
dutchroll Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Lol. Every time a new Government gets elected, approximately 49% of the voters say the other 51% are idiots. Repeat every election cycle. 3
