damkia Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Generally that condition equates to poor alternator output. CAUSES Belt driven? check tension Regulator? (old school not electronic) check gaps Diode open circuit in rectifier block? Disconnect and test Brushes worn? Inspect/replace/re-tension (new springs)
rhtrudder Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 I think it has Ducati electrics , regulator rectifier gets its power from fixed coils on rear of engine separate from ignition coils when running the voltage meter reads about 14 volts but drops back to 12 after shut down.

Sounds more like the battery dying, not holding it's charge. Check terminals for tightness and/or corrosion, determine if the battery requires electrolyte, or has been venting off it's acid/gel/mysterious internal fluid..... Check the terminals on the regulator/rectifier, but more likely, get a new battery.

rhtrudder Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 Thanks for the help , battery spins the engine over OK so I guess it may be loose wires, the engine has nearly 1300 hrs up , how much life can you get out of the reg/rec
Birdseye Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 In addition, check the voltage of the battery with a decent multimeter off load, preferably disconnected. If its down at 12v after a flight then chances are its stuffed.
