Cowl plugs to stop wasp nests

Any good solutions to keeping potter wasps out of engine?

 

Continued building of nests on top of heads has big problems for cooling.

 

Anyone have good cowl plugs and does this stop them?

 

They could enter from underneath but dont seem to.

Yep, http://www.punkinheadair.com.au/ultralights/ make cowl covers for Jabs, among others including a full cockpit covers which I use on my J230 when I travel away from the hangar.....quality stuff

Yeah I have a travel cover from them too, good bit of gear but doesnt cover front section.

 

Looking for those foam plugs Id guess

That's exactly what Im talking about.....I have an air intake plug, LH and RH and Engine air intake plug that are all joined together with red ribbon....Its made of a heavy white canvas material with foam inserts.....I assumed as its the same material it came from them given the main cover has their logo on it....I didn't buy it direct....It came with the aircraft when I bought it 2nd hand......

I have a hangar in the bush and had problems with hornets/wasps and something that ate scat hoses (rats?). Use 3 bungs in the front and now no problem by hanging 2 camfor sticks on the engine mount rails and a rat bait sitting on the airfilter box (got a quarter eaten initally but nothing since in the last 3 or so years)

 

Only disadvantage is you have to remove top cowl before each flight to remove them - but thats not such a bad idea for an aircrft that sits unattended for a few days at a time in the bush anyhow.
