Guest tony.osborne Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Undoubtedly one of the most interesting weapons used by the Luftwaffe during the World War II, the Mistel. PA. Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 A fighter escort??? Am I the only one who thought of a women in leather with a whip that is paid by the hour?
Birdseye Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 For those that don't read pork n'cheese, the upper aircraft was manned and the lower one was packed full of explosives. The fighter seperated at the appropriate point and went home, leaving the drone to do its thing. 1
Phil Perry Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I've got a picture similar to those, with 2 seaplanes, one on top of the other for extreme range over water,. . . .I'll dig it out ( after cooking the tea,. . .it's my turn. . .) then scan + post. . . . slightly differing purposes, but nonetheless interwesting . . . . Birdseye Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I've got a picture similar to those, with 2 seaplanes, one on top of the other for extreme range over water,. . . .I'll dig it out ( after cooking the tea,. . .it's my turn. . .) then scan + post. . . . slightly differing purposes, but nonetheless interwesting . . . .Phil It must have turned into supper and breakfast! I think this is what you had in mind, although with this one the lower aircraft wasn't full of bombs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_Mayo_Composite
Phil Perry Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I think that must be it . . . can't remember any others . . . . I've got a set of RAF engineering books dating back to between the wars, and it's in there. . . from the collection of my Maternal Uncle Jim, who was an engineer / Air gunner in ww2, disappearing one night in 1942 over the North sea whilst tail gunner with a Wellington squadron leaflet raid over Holland. . . . A/C wreckage location unknown . . . I was born a bit to late to meet him. . .shame, according to Mother . . ., he was quite a character. One of the volumes is actually just a cover, containing folded illustrations / photographs of a lot of interesting aircraft along with specs. re-discovered it last week, but 'Er indoors can't think where she put it. . .! Dare not leave anything lying around. . . .!
