i am looking to do a flight with 4 aircraft around southern Qaald and northern/central NSW as far west as birdsville, broken hill, and trying to locate farm stays with airstrips to stay each night.

does anyone have a source to locate these sites or else have experience with places they have stayed.

Cameroo camel Station, Bindara Station on the darling River. Arkaroola in South OZ flinders ranges. Louth on the darling river, between Bourke and Willcannia,

or there is this map, made by a well know and well respected forumite.

Keep an eye out for ads in the RA-Aus members market. Those actively seeking winged custom occasionally advertise there.

The ERSA shows AC for airfields that have accommodation.

The pilots touring guide can be viewed by subscription from inside a copy of OzRunways or on its own. That will provide a good list of candidates once you know roughly where you are going each night.

I've stayed at Narromine and Clifton airfields only

If we're talking Sth Qld, then there is Cherrabah, and in SW Qld, there is Begonia Historical homestead, between Mitchell and Bollon. Both have websites and should be good. Am going to check out Begonia in coming weeks with any luck.

This has come up before on the forum, do a search. I mentioned a new one just south of Leyburn towards Karara.

A "dedicated" thread here would be good, we could add our locations as sourced. ( state by state )....I've got lots, continually growing......we get about.

Dropped into Sharron park strip recently due weather. It is farm stay just south of glen innes. wonderful hosts, good grass strip. Make sure to get a workshop tour...it's amazing. And check out the home designed and built hanger, by 70 plus years young owner of new stol aircraft. They have a website.

There you go......places getting listed already.

What I'm thinking is ......you know your intended route, it may cross into states......open relevant states page, bingo, info there, start planning.

Have found on a few occasions the info avail on AOPA is incorrect, ie...accom etc etc no longer avail, as an example. ( ph calls prior best practice ) yip, some folks just rock in, cattle run here n there avoiding the plane, little wonder agro arises. ( courtesy wins every time ) .....don't forget a copy of the latest newspaper....that's a winner too.

Yes news paper and a loaf of fresh bread will do the trick.

Watch out for the house dog he will rush and greet you.

Dogs.......watch out for the mongrel blue heeler lurking behind you. Watch out for the moos that like to rub up on your aero, and the mongrels that lick the hell out of it.

Yea......lot of watch outs.

Forgot.....set your prop vertically, moos and roos get about at night, might save you a busted prop.

Russ seeing you are thinking about all those animals with an aim of wrecking an aircraft.

Just for those which continue to insist I am thinking of an electric fence would be good.

We can get 4 specialised very lite posts for electric fences, small energiser which runs on torch batteries they will run for about 5days the string is not a burden all that will pack in a little bag when you get there not much work to construct that fence. I am in the process of putting all this together just for aircraft safety.

I hasten to add three more animals to the list:- goats, horses and pigs.. Electric fence keeps all at bay..

Regards,

KP.

Once bitten, twice shy. ( the mongrels are expressionless, can't read their intentions ) ........and it bleedin hurts ( the bite )

Don't forget them ants either, park in their path, they climb aboard reeeel quick.( good fun at 5000ft getting chewed )

Wonder how many Irish owners of three bladed props that caught out:puzzled:

But you are all right, cows are shockers they are curious and light aluminium or fabric is no match for them. A few years ago when we were still living out at hillston we put down a new 6 inch bore and had got the diesel motor set up but didn't have the time to finish the shed that day, we came back the next morning to find the cows still huddled around it and every wire they could get at with their tongues was completely chewed to nothing.

The electric fence is a good idea

Also don't forget the sheep, my sheep got out of their paddock and were using my plane as shade, I came down and spotted them and that spooked them and they jumped up so quick they dinged my fuse. Can't be too careful, animals and planes don't mix

:doh:Walked into that now didn't i.

How's things on that side of the range scotty? Looked good here straight after lunch with some good cloud cover and I was thinking of going for a fly but decided to have an arvo snooze first (not old yet) and two hours later I woke to the sound of rain. Mixed emotions lol needed the rain but really wanted the fly too:dizzy:.
