I'll go along with that. I have been to many fly ins over the past 30 odd years and Old Station is amongst the best. I plan to be there again this year. Greg.

Just bumping this thread to remind everyone this great event is on this weekend.

Old Station copped a beating from Cyclone Marcia but you wouldn't know it now. The site is looking great and we are ready for a big turnout. The weather is looking OK so come along, have a great time and help support a fantastic cause.

See you there!

Just returned. What a great weekend. The winds were a bit unpredictable, but the weather was great. They had the usual events and attractions, PLUS a fantastic fireworks display.

A minor downer was the heavy hand of CASA was evident in the new fencing and pedestrian traffic rules. PFFFT! To CASA.

Congrats to Paul Christian, the new owner of Spirit of Kitty Hawk. Unfortunately the conditions meant he didn't get to go up in it, but ther'll be plenty other times.

I dunno why CASA go out of their way to act like wankers, everybody knows that they are, no need to prove it.

Was some great air displays today but I would have liked to have seen more pilot and aviation stands, Ozrunways and Fraser Coast Airpark were the only ones I came across

What a great weekend...this was my first Old Station flyin and the best event of this type that I have been too, the effort that all the volunteers and workers put in on the weekend and probably weeks before should heartily congratulated 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif everything that I saw there was top notch from our dinner on Friday night to the speakers after, it was the first time I had heard Matt Hall speak and I actually got a chance to shake his hand and have a quick chat..what a legend and a true gentleman..the airshow on Saturday afternoon was top notch as well.IMG_0490.JPG.2c5d2206be2982622e5ce116b3833deb.JPG

I loved it all, I thank my mate Scott for letting me ride shotgun in the now sold Nynja well done on the sale Scott and to Paul you are getting a really nice aircraft..good luck with it.

I met some of the folks that I have talked to here on Rec Flyer and to finally meet them in person was really nice, I hope it won't be to long before we can get a chance to chat again.

The headwinds going up to Old Station from Caboolture and also coming home with pretty much the same winds again was a bit of a pain but all in all a wonderful weekend and I am looking forward to next year.... 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

One aircraft returning south from Old Station along the coast at altitude reported 45kt headwind at one stage.....

I dunno why CASA go out of their way to act like wankers, everybody knows that they are, no need to prove it.

One of the many things that astounded me in oshkosh last year was the complete absence of fences, rules about pedestrians and aircraft and traffic mix. Everyone could walk through all the aircraft in all the camping, parking and even taxi areas. People did as they were asked ( not "told") by marshals in a spirit of sensible co-operation when aircraft were moved or taxied and there were no disasters or problems.

I wish CASA would take a look at places like oshkosh and realise that they are not needed and they can go away and the place will be no worse off. In fact probably better off.

Home from another great Old Station Fly-in this morning ....on the right end of the 30 Knt winds, and if not for a bit of rainy WX around Mackay/ Bowen would have done OS to Townsville non-stop ( 2 hrs 55 mins OS to Bowen) in a slow ? old Lightwing. (ground speeds mostly in the 100-112 kt range most of the way) Good co- operation from controllers around Rockhampton, and they even appreciated me reporting a vehical fire happening in the Hedlow area shortly after.

Not the most ideal WX over the weekend but for those who made the effort, a great weekend and airshow as the reward. Thank you to the Creed family and the Old Station Flying Club. Oh, and I can report that something very significant for the RAA may come out of Michael Linkes and Mick Monck's visit to OS , watch this space.

Good to see you Ross and those others who were there. I think the air show was too drawn out, too much idle time, supposedly caused by CASAs new rules. It was the first display under these rules. It ran so late that I could not fly home. Had about 20 min flight and 35 mins to last light. I wouldn't not want to be arriving at last light, too dark for me and no time for any problems to be sorted out.

Hopefully next year will be better, but it is good. To see that the general consensus is that it was a good show.
