glassdogangle Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I was trying to find some help re-wiring a small PTT button in place of a bigger one that is already working with my ICOM IC-A24.
Kyle Communications Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Its pretty easy to do what is the problem?
Phil Perry Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Its pretty easy to do what is the problem? It's easy for us Mark,. . .because we are bleeding radio hammmmmms. . . . .and in your case,. . . you may even be a profeshunalham. . . . . . . .! Ell Oh Ell. Phil
Old Koreelah Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I am also in the market for this info. Years ago I bought a PTT switch which never really worked as advertised, so I just press the button on my portable. This avoids a mess of plugs and failure points, but it requires taking hand off throttle. Not ideal.
Kyle Communications Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 PTT switches used on HH radios with headsets attached is a little different. Basically the PTT switch completes the ground side of the microphone circuit. It does depend on what radio you have. What radio do you have Old koreelah?

The PTT swicth should have 2 terminals. Just swap the larger switch for the smaller one it doesnt matter what pins you use on the switch. All it does is create a short circuit across the switch sort of like closing a gate

Phil Hi Phil Actually I am in the process of making a new intercom that will have many radio inputs also bluetooth for phone and a failsafe for the airband radio input. The main reason is to be able to take a dual band ham rig with me when flying also to give a bit more freedom in other options which you dont get now with the intercoms built into radios like my Xcom. Another thing if you can keep an eye out for is the later Rotax 912ULS ignition modules the ones with soft start. I need one or two that are stuffed. I am led to believe the original ones like most which are failing are made by Ducati the later ones with the soft start are Motorini. These newer ones dont fail very often so it is difficult to get hold of any. You may have a lot more access to them over in the old country. Mark

Mark I'll ask around at some of the summer aerojumbles, never know,. . .might be some about,. .
Kyle Communications Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Thanks Phil....the later Rotax's from about 2011 onwards have them
Phil Perry Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Thanks Phil....the later Rotax's from about 2011 onwards have them Just had a mail response from a friend who said that there is,. . .(apparently ) an outfit in Northeren France, and one near London who purport to repair the soft start module ( Motorini) . . . .so I guess, if this is a fact,. . .that most people would opt for that initially, rather than paying the alternative at the outset Mark. . . . . anyway, as I said, I'll keep looking. There's an air-expo at Sywell in June, that's usually very well attended by "Bitsa" people, with bitsa this and that,. . . I'll ask around the stalls. . . . . . On a completely disconnected note, the chap also mailed a poster for a Fly-in at a place called Sturgate, where the Lincoln Aero Club have a fly-in each year,. . .some aerojumble there too,. . .that one was good last year, plenty of aerojunk around. . . but the organisers were severely castigated for the lack of available food for esulient visiting aircrews, so this year they are putting on a "Whinge Prevention Buffet" at the princely sum of £6.00 . . . . . .I immediately replied and asked what they would charge for a "Pre-Stall Buffet. . . ." have not had a reply as yet. . . . . . . . maybe that was too much of a soft start. . . . . .?
Kyle Communications Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Over here those sort of events are few and far between. Population and the tyranny of distance of course make them hard to happen. I would appreciate it if you could keep an eye out. I will pay of course even for a couple of broken modules but they need to be the soft start ones. I have plenty of the previous models and have sorted the circuits out on them. Mark
