derekliston Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Can anyone on this forum tell me whether Zenair Australia really exists and if it does, how the hell does one contact them? As I've previously posted, I bent my CH701 and now need to order some airframe parts. Over the last two months I have emailed them twice, left a voice message once and a text message, all of which have gone unanswered. I'd obviously prefer to order in Australia rather than direct from the USA but am beginning to think that I may have to do that!
Marty_d Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Allan Barton is the contact, at Bendigo airfield. He's on here as Allan@Bendigo. What parts do you need?
derekliston Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Sorry for the delayed reply. I need a whole host of airframe parts. I am compiling a list but it will include firewall, fwd fuselage floor, all of the various stiffeners, left outboard slat parts, left wing skins etc. I don't know if perhaps Allan Barton is only interested in supplying complete kits and not parts but I have still heard nothing from him. I think I will just contact Zenith USA with the list of parts and mention how difficult it is to contact their Australian dealer. 1

planesmaker Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Seems a lot your parts can be easily made out of the correct aluminium sheet. Why not make the parts using the damaged parts for templates? Or have some one do it for you. 1
Marty_d Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I agree, lots of that stuff is relatively flat. Wing skins for example need no bending apart from the bottom TE. Lots of it is pretty big too which makes freight expensive.
derekliston Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 Difficulty is that I need an insurance quote. Easier to do that by ordering parts than lots of different pieces of metal! Suggestions welcomed.
planesmaker Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 No real difference, have a repair shop look at it and make up a quote for making the parts, cost of metal, time to cut and bend, fitting and finishing, etc, plus fudge factor(to allow for unseen or things that take longer than 1st thought. Where are you located? Tom
derekliston Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 I'm in Warwick Qld. I will of course fabricate my own wing skins and probably firewall but it will I think , be easier to order the "bent" bits. I have past experience of trying to get non-aircraft metal shops to understand and produce what I want to the necessary tolerances and bend radii!
Old Guy Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Can anyone on this forum tell me whether Zenair Australia really exists and if it does, how the hell does one contact them?As I've previously posted, I bent my CH701 and now need to order some airframe parts. Over the last two months I have emailed them twice, left a voice message once and a text message, all of which have gone unanswered. I'd obviously prefer to order in Australia rather than direct from the USA but am beginning to think that I may have to do that! I have been trying to contact Allan Barton for nearly two weeks, but have had no reply! Does Zenair Australia actualy exist? I want to start building an aircraft and want to know if there is an Australian distributor or if I have to import myself. There is a web sight that purports to be a business........ But is it? I have tried to contact Allan Bartom for two weeks. I am about to spend a LOT of money...... who amI supposed to deal with? If no one answers the phone, what am I supposed to think? Do I feel confident to send a deposit to a business that shows a mobile phone and a post office address, where no one answers inquiries? I don't know....? An ASIC search says the Business name Zenair Australia was cancelled on 19/05/2008. IS this incorrect? Please let me know. WHO am I supposed to deal with to buy a ZENITH Aircraft?
bexrbetter Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I have been trying to contact Allan Barton for nearly two weeks, but have had no reply! This is not a go at Allan Barton in anyway, do not know him, never dealt with him, possibly a great and helpful bloke. But; I have been frustrated so many times with the majority of Australian businesses I have tried to contact either by phone, fax and/or especially emails, I just often want to give up. There may be other countries as bad but I haven't come across it yet anywhere else with such consistency. And then there's the attitudes, especially after hours or weekends. I have been literally told where to go for having the cheek to ring at 5.40 when they closed at 5.30 - the same people will complain how tough small business is in a hairs breath. I try to spend every cent I can in Oz including purchasing my somewhat overpriced planes there, and in November spent another $50K on other product, both that I could have gotten cheaper from the US, but geez it's hard going somedays. 4 1
rankamateur Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I have been trying to contact Allan Barton for nearly two weeks, but have had no reply! Click on Allan@Bendigo in the posts above in this thread and click "start conversation" and send him a private message. Or just don't worry, talk to Derek Liston (also above) and then go and build a Savannah. 1 1
Marty_d Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Hi Old Guy, Rankamateur is correct - if I had my time over I'd have bought a Savannah instead of scratch building a 701. There's a lot more of them in Australia than Zeniths, which means a bigger stock of second-hand parts and far more available advice. (My 701 will have Savannah wheels, rudder pedals, brakes, Y-stick, flaperon mixer, fuel system, doors, and slats - to name a few...) Plus of course the Aussie dollar is well down on the US... have you considered buying a completed aircraft or is the building of it a goal in itself? There are a number of nice planes for sale at the moment for prices much lower than a completed build will end up costing. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
AllanBendigo Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 To old guy I have checked my phone and no messages Just calls from private number so I cannot call no number Have sent you sent an email oh I can not see one Happy to help Email is zenairaustralia at gmail dot com Cheers
Narrabeenrick Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I have also tried email and call Allen about some info, I don't have a private #, I never got a reply
flyerme Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I recently sent a " reputable " company a heap of messages both email and ph. As I ordered some AN bolts weeks earlier that hadn't arrived. No reply no answer to phone calls even though they had a answering service to leave my detsils. Eventually 7 weeks later they refund my money with no contact and no reasoning. No email to tell me they refunded either.( just by chance I found the refund) .. Fondly enough the day before refund I made a post about them taking online orders and not delivering. !!!!!!! Then 2 weeks after that they return my call ? Lol. Suffice to say I gave them my thoughts on running a business.... My last business ( mechanical engineering workshop) IDE take calls at any hour ( open hours 8am - 6pm) .. Peeps would call as late as 9pm sometimes but that's just part of the customer service ( go above and behond ) Happy customers always return ... As fir above AN bolts - not only will I never deal with said business but I will not recommend them at all.... I was happy to find another company that was brilliant. Sent me bolts and INVOICE within 2 days of order .. Yes that's right no up front costs just good ol humen trust.. Don't pay ,don't come back .... Very happily paid then gave them some free advertising. All winners .... 2 1

rankamateur Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I have checked my phone back to the 28 feb there are not missed call so maybe ring again Have you tried a different phone carrier? Sounds like you have a lot of business getting away on you. You must be paying for telephone service you are not getting, but that is nothing new in this great country. 1
Narrabeenrick Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I have checked my phone back to the 28 feb there are not missed call so maybe ring again My calls and email was at a guess about 6 months ago Allan

Swish Projects Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Hi Everyone, I recently rebooted Zenair's Australian representation. My first month in the role has been a great success, with a few sales going through and my Facebook and web pages developing (slowly). My personal build is a CH750STOL, and it is progressing really well. It is true what they say - I am 90% finished, and still have 90% to go. With luck I will be committing Aviation by December (I will not commit to an actual year). I will be at Narromine in October, and at SAAA stand at Avalon in 2019 too, so please come up and say hello. If you can't wait that long to buy a dozen Zenair kits off me (& who could blame you?), then just drop me a line. [email protected] Take it easy aviators. James. 5

My CH 650 turned up about 3 months ago, if had of been a bit quicker you would of had that sale :{ Will any of us with Zenith kits already be able to go through you if we need spare parts or questions? Cheers Rick
Swish Projects Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Thanks Rick. And congratulations to you too on you 650 project. I would love to be able to operate a 650 from my place, but my dodgy little strip needs a 750STOL. I jumped into the Distributor role to fill the need and can say that it was a great decision. The people at Zenair are great and my contacts with prospectice, new and existing clients have all been very positive. Helping people into a Zenair is great too. These kits are such an easy product to promote. Another really positive aspect of my transition into the distributor role in Australia, is that I have had several meetings with my predecessor, Mr Allan Barton. My experience with Allan has been great. Allan has given generously of his time, experience and contacts. I was hoping to get a bit of help navigating the foreign currency maze, and instead received hours and hours of great help on every aspect of the business. The transition from Allan to myself has been very smooth and Allan is pleased that I am picking up where he left off. To answer your question about after-sales support - please do contact me and I will do the best I can to help you out. Like most builders, I am learning every day too. I confess I am not nearly as knowlegable as I would like to be on the details of each assembly or even kit-building, but like everyone else on this forum, we will work together to get a great result. In short, I am good at getting the stuff you need. Not yet the best bloke for any detailed technical experience. Thank for getting in touch and keep us all informed on your progress. Bye for now, James. 2

If I go with an order I will also order a new fuel quantity sender.
