skeptic36 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Hi all, I need some help adding a custom waypoint to a flight plan in Oz Runways. I don't understand how the coordinates should be written correctly. A guy has sent me a set of coords that are supposed to be on the west side of Port Phillip bay, this is what he sent: That didn't appear to be the way coordinates are presented in Ozrunways, and I eventually got it to accept them like this: Problem is that isn't where I want to go. What's wrong? Be gentle with me, I'm not very smart
alf jessup Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 That's deg min min Bill Think oz is in deg min sec format
skeptic36 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 So how do I enter it into oz so it takes me to the right place ?
alf jessup Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Got me there brother Bes to send a msg to Bas Scheffers
Geoff13 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I am not certain of this but I think you need to convert to degrees and minutes with a decimal for the seconds. Should possibly read 38 degrees 13.1 minutes South and 144 degrees 38.9 minutes east. Shown here as test custom.
skeptic36 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Thanks Geoff, That's about where I want to go, my last effort was sending me 6000 nm somewhere lol Thanks again Regards Bill
frank marriott Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 If you tap on the map where you want to go and then "enter user waypoint" it will be there. Hope that makes sence, easier to show then explain, for me anyway. 1
skeptic36 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Ok, so when I try to enter the coords with all sorts of apostrophes and stars and things to represent degrees and minutes, it sends me thousands of miles away, then I looked at the example oz runways shows underneath ( bloody genius aren't I ) there are none of those, just letters and numbers. Do it like that and it does what I want. Thanks guys. Regards Bill
alf jessup Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Glad you sorted it out Bill now you don't have to retrofit the 1000lt ferry tank
skeptic36 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 If you tap on the map where you want to go and then "enter user waypoint" it will be there. Hope that makes sence, easier to show then explain, for me anyway. Thanks Frank, but I was looking for a particular spot which may not be easily identified ( ie a paddock strip) so I needed it pinpointed fairly accurately. Regards Bill
Happyflyer Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Don't know much about Oz runways but you have a three different formats 1. degrees, minutes, seconds 2. degrees, minutes plus decimal minutes and 3. degrees plus decimal degrees. You have to have input the same format into the system as the system is using. There is probably a menu function in Oz runways to change them. Just convert your mates co-ords to whatever Oz runways is set to. You can google the conversion. In your post you show home as S37.70 E1417.84 . I think that E1417.84 should be E141.784 . 38.2174 degrees = 38 degrees 13.046 minutes = 38 degrees 13 minutes 3 seconds. 144.6425 = 144 degrees 38.552 minutes = 144 degrees 38 minutes 33 seconds. 37.70 degrees = 37 degrees 42.0 minutes = 37 degrees 42 minutes 0 seconds 141.784 degrees = 141 degrees 47.04 minutes = 141 degrees 47 minutes 2 seconds
Geoff13 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Once you enter your coords and put your user waypoint in, then tap on it and scroll down, you can see how close I got to what you where looking for
Geoff13 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 If you turn curser on in Oz runways then you can read the coords at the top of the page for the curser position. Zoom in to get more accurate. When you are on the spot just tap it and go set user way point. That will put it right on the curser. To turn curser on just tap small gear and then show curser.
Yenn Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Oz runways has instructions on the internet, which I downloaded a month ago. They allow several formats for entry. Best to use E for East and S for South, rather than plus or minus. Degrees, Mins, secs ie 33 28 1533S Degrees, min and decimal mins ie. 33 28.25S Degrees, decimal deg ie.33.4708333The above is as quoted in their instructions.
