happyskipper Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Hi everyone - just introducing myself. I am a South African, currently working in Mozambique (you know, Africa)..... I held a PPL and worked in the Flight Operations field in the airlines for twenty years. I stopped flying 18 years ago, due to lack of money, and left the aviation field. I am now a mariner, doing coastal passages on the East Coast of Africa - I recently purchased a home-built Jodel D18 Sovereign from a friend, and will be flying for fun from now on! Thanks for the opportunity to chat to fellow Recreational Aviators..... 1
microman Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Hi Mark - welcome aboard - I had a D18 (see left) - what engine do you have in yours? It seems to me that no two D18's are the same - every engine possible, some with flaps, some without, some with sliding canopy, some hinged at the sides or front. However they all have some things in common - a great glide, marvellous vision due to the nose-down attitude, and good performance cross-country. 1
facthunter Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Welcome. Keep us informed how you are going. Nev 1

Hi Microman - yes, there are millions of variations: My particular one has less than 100 hours, has a VW 2.4 Lt (85 hp) engine, with a dual ignition mod. She has a total of 100 lt fuel capacity (which means no pax or bags) and a sliding canopy. She has flaps....
cavalon48 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hi Mark, welcome, Mozambique is an awesome place to have a bit of fun, many of you south africans fly gyro`s have been speaking to the agent for arrow in SA and these guys have a coastal gyro flying tour each year to Namibia. Way out of my reach unless i can tee up an overseas trip.
lprigan1 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Hi Mark - welcome! Plenty of us South Africans out in Australia too (the Sling seems to be doing a roaring trade)! Feel free to come say Howzit if you're ever in Aus! On a personal note - I have great memories of holidays with friends in Maputo!
