winsor68 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Depends how long the firemen took to find the bolt cutters in the tool box. Once the fire got hold it would be only seconds before who knows what. Yep...but never let the obvious get in the way of a good 'story'... Just human nature for a certain percentage I guess.
Bruce Tuncks Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Can anybody give me an actual example of how having a fire extinguisher in the cockpit saved anyone? There have been examples of in-flight fires, a Stemme and a Colyaer come to mind, but a cockpit fire extinguisher would not have helped. Both these aircraft have engines behind the pilot. Now the Jabiru is inherently better with its engine in front of a robust firewall. And the point of the fire-engine story is that the fuselage fuel tank is not such a hazard as it might appear. It didn't catch fire at all. There is a strong safety case for being lighter. The argument for carrying an extinguisher would have to be statistically good to outweigh the increased risk of carrying that extra weight.
