Just here for a looksee to decide between here and pprune. Any preferences or advice anyone? Chris L Hi Chris, Welcome, mate! Tell us a bit about yourself - where have you been learning, what are you learning in, what do you hope to do when you get your certificate/licence etc? Most people here are friendly and won't bite! Cheers, Neil
fbgflyer Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 How long have you got to hear my sorry tale Neil? I started with Civil Flying school at Jandakot in WA when an hour in a Cherokee 140 cost about $16.00 or half my apprentice's weekly wage. Surprisingly, I ran put of money pretty quickly so my training stopped. Some time later I moved to Victoria and took it up again with Civil at Moorabin. I ran out of money again and stopped. Civil went broke & closed up shop. Not sure if the two occurrences were related or not. A family emergency saw me suddenly relocated to Canberra where I finished my apprenticeship and started earning better money. I thought to myself - What should I do with this extra money? and I decided to take up flying again - so I did but this time with Ron Dennis at the Airport Flying School. But I ran out of money and stopped. And flying school went broke and folded....... Some years passed, I got married, had kids and after a receiving a small inheritance (Thanks Mum!) I took it up again this time with Brindabella flying school and you'll never guess what happened to them. About the only real positive is that I took up gliding with the Canberra Gliding club and they still seem to be going strong. Perhaps my curse is losing it's potency and I might be ably to finish my power training at last. Any schools game enough? 1
recflyer Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Welcome! If you have been gliding im sure you will pick it up in no time! Best of luck!

Hi Chris, LOL - sounds like you are a persistent bug.. , er.., person, so I reckon you will finish your training and get your licence, no problem!! Keep going, and keep us up to date with your progress. Cheers, Neil
Pearo Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 May I add, that you will find me on pprune also, and I have developed a good relationship with a couple of people there. There is some good info there, but a lot of old cronies stuck in their ways, people who think taking risk is what makes you a good pilot. Here you will find more Aus specific stuff, and less of the basic infighting (although that still exists here to some degree). pprune is a great forum, but you need a better bullshit detector there IMO. 1

Phil Perry Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Hiya Chris. . . Like Pearo, I use PPrune a little, but as Pearo says, there are a lot of wannabees out there who just don't seem to be able to admit it to themselves. ! ! I gave it up as a serious site a while ago. This site is populated with some really helpful and wizened grey eagles, and folk who will bend over slightly backwards to help a newcomer with as good gen as you'd get anywhere. I don't count myself as one of these, I'm not fit to lick their boots, but I hang around like a bad smell and have a lot of laughs. Welcome young Sir, you seem to have the bug, so excercise it when you can, as an old aboriginal said to me in a world a long long time ago, in a land far far away. . . ."You're a long time staring at that lid bro" . . . .so do it whilst you've got the chance mate. Phil
