farri Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Robert ( Bob ) Plant, aged 86, of Ravenshoe, North Queensland, passed away on Thursday 23/07/2015. Originally, Bob flew Tiger Moths but with the formation of the Far North Queensland Ultralight Association, Bob became a very active member and decided to give Ultralights a go. Bob was the first of our club members, I instructed in the Drifter and once he`d obtained his AUF pilot certificate he purchased a Drifter, which he flew for many years. Bob would always say! " Tiger Moth`s are good but Drifters are better.".......Rest in peace,Bob. Frank,
facthunter Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks Frank. A pretty good innings. I always felt the Drifter flew very much like a Tiger Moth except you can see where you are landing. Nev 1
Teckair Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks for that Frank I remember Bob like it was yesterday. Sad but time waits for nobody, still 86 is a good innings. 1
Guest Maj Millard Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks Frank....had the pleasure of meeting the old croc hunter a couple of times in the FNQUA days....quite a character as I recall, and a good drifter driver too....rest in peace Bob.
farri Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Thanks for that Frank I remember Bob like it was yesterday. Yeah! Me too!...Whenever we had a club get-together here at Deeral, Bob would always turn up with his spuds, big pot, gas cooker and boil up a heap for everyone and he really loved doing it too! ( At that time Bob was a potato, share farmer.) He was always happy to do what ever he could do for the club...He and I built the first shed for the Drifter, here. Thanks Frank....had the pleasure of meeting the old croc hunter a couple of times in the FNQUA days....quite a character as I recall. In his early days, Bob was a bit of a barn stormer!... I`ve never forgotten the story he told me about the day he flew over a mate`s property...He lined up the chook pen and went screaming down! Using his words,"Chooks and feathers flew everywhere, some had their legs stuck in the wire mesh!" He thought it was a great joke and laughed as he told the story! Frank.
