Litespeed Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Great device, amazing how far these drones have come in a very short time. I could see a lot a applications for it that are not just ego related. Search and rescue been one. The fact it can be thrown in water and takeoff is very cool. Meanwhile peeps are in competition to carry and deliver a case of beer by quadcopter- cool app.
SDQDI Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 it can't dodge trees and buildings There is no reason why it couldn't. I've been thinking about the laser distance measurer thingys and wondering how hard it would be to set up so that a quadcopter could know how high it is and how far from any horizontal objects well even overhead objects for that matter. Shirley it wouldn't be too hard to program in a two foot buffer so that once the quadcopter got that close it stopped and could maintain clearance? For that matter with a couple of optics you could probably set up that to calculate distance on a visual object.
facthunter Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Who's Shirley? Keeps cropping up. A Freudian slip? Nev

Guest ozzie Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Talking about how far drones have come did anyone see the TV program on Wednesday afternoon on autonomous drones? Amazing and scary to watch. A simple slalom course were the drone spent a minute or so teaching its self the course by flying next to it. It then flew through the course when it was confident to do so. Then it started to teach other drones how to fly the course with out them 'seeing' it first. Then another example in a room with cameras looking down to create a GPS type environment, 3 drones holding a triangular net would catch a ball that was thrown into the air then it would toss the ball into the air so the person could catch it without moving from his position. Amazing stuff. Drones will play a huge part of our lives in the very near future.
Marty_d Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I give it about a year before some fool hooks a few drones up to a garden chair and takes himself flying. 1
Litespeed Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 What like this? This is a more sensible one, but there is a guy building a death trap with 8 twin cylinder RC two strokes. Makes me think of human sashumi.
Litespeed Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Here are two candidates for the Darwin award of human sashumi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb1NCr9PbHQ That sort of looks safe.... But this one..
Marty_d Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 The fact that the builder has put anti-collision lights on that last one shows a level of optimism slightly divorced from reality... 1
Bikky Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Examples of people with too much time on their hands and a complete lack of ability to ask the all-important question, "Why?" 1
Guest ozzie Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Just reading some interesting comments on the drones that flew at the Airventure enclosure the other week one that was the most interesting was that one manufacturer had to reprogram the safety parameters so it would fly in the airports airspace. So in the near future all drones will have awareness as to airspace types. The EAA are now accepting drones like they do entry level model aircraft encouraging youngsters to build and fly. They envision them to be the modern version of entry level home building. Shame our national fly ins don't support Kid Venture type activities. Now Google is making an airspace grab and wants to take over the below 500ft level for the exclusive operation of their drones. Good luck with that google.

Google is powerful and influential and I wouldn't be surprised if they succeed (in the USA).
Guest ozzie Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 They have to take on the FAR103 types, air rescue, police and aerial firefighters and others that currently use this lower airspace. It will be interesting to see just how well money talks.
fly_tornado Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Did you guys miss this? http://www.avweb.com/blogs/insider/AEA-Google-to-the-Rescue-on-ADS-B-223824-1.html
Guest ozzie Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 So the spinoff will be cheap adsb for everyone.
