Guest Maj Millard Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Nice flight over to Townsvilles' Donnington Airpark today to hook up with Ole Hartmann, builder and designer of the STOL Hornet. Local folks Graham and wife Pattie have bought a very nice custom-built hornet and some local CFIs were getting familiar with the aircraft so they can teach Graham to fly it. Thanks to Graham and Patti for putting on a very nice lunch. Graham has also built a very nice custom Hornet trailer complete with refuelling facilities, so big plans ahead.

Guest Maj Millard Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Wow it looks great in Blue. Sure does......graham also has a car collection....guess what ...all blue...see the same blue on the trailer mags...
rankamateur Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Hope the trailer has nice soft suspension, it would be a shame to shake a beautiful new airframe to bits dragging it around looking for somewhere different to launch.

SDQDI Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Graham and Pattie started their build while I was still finishing mine off, I only met them the once but seemed like a top couple. Good to see the blue beast up there.
Guest Maj Millard Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 This particular Hornet has several custom features ....the main undercarriage is quite a bit shorter, the wings fold for trailering, the fin and rudder are shorter so the area has been increased and the tail length is a bit longer than normal. There are also a couple of custom storage bins in the tail for fishing rods or other long things. Sitting on the ground it looks a bit reminstamt of a DHC-1 Beaver or even an early Stintson. Also has additional side cockpit windows. Ole certainly builds a beautifully and rugged aircraft and the paint finish is remarkable.
ave8rr Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 How does the wing fold Ross? Is it like the Skyfox or folded vertically? Mike
Guest Maj Millard Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Not sure but I believe the fold vertically by the look of the trailer.....
