A nine hour sortee sitting on an ejection seat !....yikes !....no doubt 3-4 tanks during that time. Ejection seat cushions are hard by nature with little movement allowed once strapped to them, and sitting in the sun beaming through that canopy can't be fun either, even though the cockpit is nicely air conditioned. They deserve a gong just for that. Great aeroplane to be doing it in though, bit more room for the wizzo that the back seat of the Mirage 111D.

Coming from an military family (father in the RAF and RAAF in WW2, RAN after the war), I wish the damn politicians (and the festering media) would stop revealing what our lads and lasses in uniform are going to do, where they are going to do it, and the weappns systems they are going to do it with! It is the most apalling breach of military security. You don't go telling your enemies via the media what resources and assets you are comitting to a fight, and you certainly don't show them the faces of those who are going to be in the front-line. This is madness driven by populism!

Yet this is exactly what politicians - and the media - are doing. The definition of treason in this country is far too narrow for the country's own good.

My best wishes to all our servicemen and women, no matter where their duties take them. Thank you for your service. Come home safe.

Agree .When you politicise involvement in military events you on a low level of morality. The servicemen might not like it but can't comment and often can't really resign, either. Nev

* Off your topic a bit Dieselten, but this story is all over the media this morning (Saturday ) RAF officer injured on duty, taken to an NHS hospital for treatment. He was moved to quiet corridors TWICE . . . so that other patients ( predominantly muslim ) would not be "Offended" on seeing his military uniform.

NO OTHER PATIENTS were "offended" by his RAF uniform apparently,. . no, this action was taken by the hospital management, . . .just in case !

I think the world has gone PC mad mate,. . . this has caused the media phone- in lines to run red hot with indignation, ( muslims included ) and the hospital has now issued a grovelling apology.

Grovelling apologies are the best ones as they are real apologies. Being offended is a difficult one. Having a bell ring next to your earhole after shift work or a call to prayer in the same circumstances may be annoying but I'm going to have to change a bit to accept public beheading and stonings. NFW. Anyhow when in ROME do as the ROMANS do..Nev.
