Guest ozzie Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Looks like a cirrus http://www.moreechampion.com.au/story/3356452/pilot-walks-away-from-plane-crash-at-moree/
facthunter Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Did He /she take the engine with them? The wing is a bit second hand Nev 1
Guest ozzie Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 FB thread says landing incident. i 'd say the airframe is sitting on the engine. longish grass slowed it up a bit quick. Good the pilot walked away.
red750 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Looks like the pilot exited the aircraft via the windscreen.
Guest ozzie Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Strewth closer look and this happened yesterday. pre lim out already https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2015/aair/ao-2015-110.aspx
facthunter Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 By the ridiculous, oft repeated saying "Any landing you walk away from is a good one" this one is certainly expensive and surely that's not good. Nev 2
DrZoos Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 One lucky chap...a credit to him and the airframe...thats some serious damage!
Happyflyer Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 "The ATSB is investigating a collision with terrain involving a Cirrus SR22, VH-OPX, near Moree, New South Wales, on 17 September 2015. During landing the aircraft encountered a gusting crosswind, resulting in a collision with terrain. The pilot suffered minor injuries and the aircraft sustained substantial damage." One of the most important skills to master in crosswind landings is when to go around and rethink the need to land at that particular airport.
DrZoos Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Must have been one hell of a crosswind, i couldn't see an runway or airport in sight in that photo
red750 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 The article says it came down in a crop field. Did he bury the tail?
pylon500 Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Talking to guys in Moree, he was landing at a property. Ag strip maybe? 1
smokeybear Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Cross wind technique needs some work, many pilots lack this skill
