rankamateur Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Measure the shaft of a small screwdriver! if you can find ones that have 1/8" and 5/32" shafts get them on the grinder and grind the tip down to a gentle taper. No real need to make a sharp point. When you are using them aligning sheets to the holes in the frames take care not to tear at the holes in the sheet. Work along the frames so any one hole doesn't have to cop all the load.
Lyndon Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 Will do at bunnings now. My tyres arrived from the states today. Happy as. $40 bucks from USA to Adelaide. Have to be happy with that.
Lyndon Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 Time to drill another rivet I think. The bottom lonererons are side specific. On these the rivets are off set except where a rib joins them. See pic one. Now on the rib a where it meets the longeron at rib a the holes are off set. There is no way in the world I can rivet the rib to the longeron see pic two. Thinking just drill another hole for an extra rivet. Thoughts. Lyndon
Kyle Communications Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 If the holes dont fit at all you have done something wrong 99 times out of 100
Lyndon Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 I agree. Havnt drilled it yet. Having another look and running a measure over skin vs the holes. The tape is telling me I will fit. Time to have a cuppa
rankamateur Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Are you going to get some primer on those longerons so you have some under the heads of you rivets?
Lyndon Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 I dip all my rivets in the same two pack primer. I'm thinking that should work ??? Lyndon
rankamateur Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Does two pack primer handle a long period before applying the top coat? I thought it had to go on right before the top coats.
Lyndon Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 Correct. Thus the longeron is only primed on the inside. The outside will be rubbed and primed just prior to painting. Lyndon
eightyknots Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Does two pack primer handle a long period before applying the top coat? I thought it had to go on right before the top coats. You seem to be racing along, Lyndon. Soon there won't be a requirement to re-prime the parts as you will be painting the aircraft before long.
Lyndon Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 I've got wings to do. Be a while yet I'm sure
eightyknots Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Are you following the suggested order of construction in the ICP manual, Lyndon?
Lyndon Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Yep but I can't do the wings yet as I'm waiting on tanks
eightyknots Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Yep but I can't do the wings yet as I'm waiting on tanks Also, you're pretty ambitious, I see all your potential flying destinations, neatly written on that chair near the wing frame!
Lyndon Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Well I was to have the colour on the rudder alerons stabilizer elevator and fin but I'm waiting on my solid rivet dies to finish them. I've done my wheels and landing gear and struts in colour. I may have an engine fingers crossed. Lyndon
Lyndon Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 I think I have the fuse sorted. Those home made bars did the trick. Most of the issues at the front with double longerons. Off to Melbourne now so Monday I reckon I can rivet it all up fingers crossed. Best part of a week setting up this fuse. Lyndon
Lyndon Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 I have looked everywhere in my manual. No mention of fit these or even a pic. I can find them in the parts list. Sg011 x2. They look like they belong here and hold the inspection panel. Am I correct ??? Lyndon

Lyndon Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Flush a5 rivets in this section. I can't seem to find any in my kit but a bigger concern is that can one really make it truly flush. Why wouldn't I drill another two holes in the bottom plate and just rivet it all with a5. From what I can see they must want the upper hinge captive ??? Lyndon
Lyndon Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 I've run out of the long 1/8th rivets for the fuselage bottom. Are these specific or can I just buy them locally. Lyndon

Lyndon Flush rivets are countersunk rivets, they will be there next to the A3 rivets you couldnt find. Have another mummy look. What I do is get everything thats in a plastic bag like nuts, bolts , rivets etc and stick them up on a board with drawing pins, lined up with each box they came out of. if you take it off the board you mark the board where it was so you know you actually had it. It works, all the little bags are there to see, no searching. Honestly every person who has built a kit (including myself) has sworn there's something missing, only, embarassingly, to find it later on down the track. I've run out of the long 1/8th rivets for the fuselage bottom. Are these specific or can I just buy them locally. they are Avex rivets 01661-00416 Easy to get them off Reg at Aerokits or Infastech (Australia) Pty Ltd 891 Wellington Road Rowville, Victoria 3178 Tel: +61 3 9765 6400 Cheers Rick 1 1
Lyndon Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Very true. But I can't find a5 flush rivets yet. But saying that I have found every thing else I couldn't find. Lyndon
