Robbo Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I have just heard a whisper that a drone is currently conducting grid searches in North East Victoria looking for the father and son fugitives. Nothing confirmed though. 1
ev17ifly2 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Sorry to disappoint, that was me up for a LAF yesterday. The only drone flying up this way takes aerials for real estate. BTW, the police "have had them surrounded" T least 6 times this week. I suspect they have no real idea where these two are. Probably out of practice when it comes to catching crooks as most of their time is spent writing infringement notices 2
Robbo Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 The person I heard this from works in a "specialised field" and they have never been wrong in the past. But.... they could be wrong, but I doubt it as they know what there on about.

Either way the police need all the help they can get at present. It's a bit like the Keystone Cops !
Downunder Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 No doubt there are UAV drones about with heat detection. Wonder what the hourly rate is?
Birdseye Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 More and more exotic drones are appearing in adverts etc. Anyone know how licencing/approvals work for autonomous or beyond visual range operations?
Robbo Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Just remember there got the defence force involved in this search. So could be a defence drone.
ev17ifly2 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I think it's getting a bit fanciful now. Won't be long and ASIO will be on the job. Given that they don't know where these guys are I hope this top secret military drone has plenty of endurance. I do happen to know the huge cost of keeping these things in the air so is not a cost effective way of searching for a couple of petty crims
Robbo Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Who said it is still doing it? I said it was doing a grid search in North East Victoria (most likely just used to scan a small area with heavy terrain) it would have finished that and gone back to were it was borrowed from by now. VICPOL don't own drones but NSW police have been trialling them for a year now and as there involved in the search it could be operated by them. The Federal Police also operate long range drones. http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/nsw-police-to-trial-unmanned-drones-20141205-121bal.html

Robbo Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Yep it is.... The defence force have been involved in a number of terror raids to.
Downunder Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Hmm ......Terrorists.....Ok. Gunmen on the run...........maybe OK Next? Ambushed after flipping the finger at a roadside speeding camera?
Robbo Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 I think shooting at police with a high powered rifle is different to flipping the bird. 1

Still getting my head around the Chinese whispers that the military are utilising the expensive, combat drones searching for a couple of crims.
Robbo Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 I never said that, I said "could be" and like you I think it is highly unlikely as well and more likely a small AFP drone. 1

Attempt murder, just wondering what level of crime you would class as serious. 1

On our scale of "Victoria's Nasty Bastards" I don't think they rate high, maybe a 2 or 3 Haven't you seen Underbelly. Anyway, not our problem now as they were last seen heading your way. 1
Robbo Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Drone or no drone either way the cops got them. Looks like they murdered there old boss now.
Robbo Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 They showed the drone on the news. It was a small one Oh well, a drone is a drone
Birdseye Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Oh well, a drone is a drone Except when its a UAV, UAS or RPAS
