Roundsounds Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 The Telegraph has reported a light aeroplane has made a forced landing in a paddock near Camden at Brownlow Hill. Nil / minor injuries and seems to be a Liberty XL-2 VH-CZS, grapevine says control system issues.
old man emu Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Local Camden flying school plane. Brownlow Hill is within the Camden circuit area. OME
JEM Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 From the Macarthur Chronicle Thursday October 29, 2015 1:03pm Peter Way Macarthur Chronicle Camden A light aircraft has been forced into an emergency landing near Camden airport at about noon today. motzartmerv Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Wow. How Bizarre. Just spoke with the chief, and it seems either some sort of control issue with the elevator, or a heavy handed student that the instructor couldn't over ride. So glad all are ok.
old man emu Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Probably some barbed comments after a strained landing. And it looks like the student shat themself on the way out OME 1 5 1
SSCBD Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 “The plane has been reasonably damaged,” she said. Reminds me of a reporter years ago saying the person was only "Slightly Killed" like to know the difference!
old man emu Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Checked the gossip at Camden Airport and the story goes that the trim was wound full forward. I suppose the pilot was doing circuits and bumps and forgot to re-trim after landing. Cockpit overload. OME
SDQDI Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 OME it's been a couple of days since I've flown, but I could've sworn I use back trim when landing? 1
old man emu Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 He was landing from the other direction! 4
facthunter Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I wonder what an unreasonably damaged plane looks like?. Looks as if the trim is full forward. Well that should get you down. The other way it would want to go up. Don't you people study your BAK? Nev

Nev with respect as I have only speculation..............that as the elevator is quite neutral and the trim tab is fully Up , that as an attempt to get a hopeful measure of up elevation on very jambed elevator ?? Or am I being fanciful .
facthunter Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Cherk, what you say is possible in theory. A trim tab that small wouldn't have much effect as a sole control of pitch IF the elevator was jammed in position close to the neutral position. The tab would continue to load the elevator at speed and that plus any physical input might amount to a lot of force. If it released you would need a quick reversal of applied manual force and retrim. Nev
