ExJourno Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I disagree with you. (In reply to Admin) They didn't die to allow others to fly on at all. They died. That others learned from their mistakes or misfortunes and/or things then changed to ensure others didn't suffer the same fates is not a result of sacrifice. A sacrifice would be if a pilot went out and deliberately demonstrated a circumstance knowing it could kill them and did so specifically to create that learning and/or change in operations. If this was news media, to describe it as you have would be called sensationalism. Words are powerful things. They should not be misused. Sure, hold off and set up an award. Debate who is deserving until the cows come home. But I object to misdescription - my 2c. 6
rankamateur Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 This week has left me with many more questions than answers. Reading through this thread and the division of opinion expressed I have one more question. Was Ross the often controversial Professor Avius of the Sport Pilot magazine articles? 1
eightyknots Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 This week has left me with many more questions than answers. Reading through this thread and the division of opinion expressed I have one more question. Was Ross the often controversial Professor Avius of the Sport Pilot magazine articles? You know, I was wondering that myself. Does anyone know the underlying identity of Professor Avius? ...or will it be it like the Stig which took many years to unmask? 1
docjell Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 As an avid follower of Prof Avius I don't think so- not Ross's style- but there's could be a story? Les see if he or she resurfaces?
farri Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Was Ross the often controversial Professor Avius of the Sport Pilot magazine articles? And, if he was????? Frank
rankamateur Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 And, if he was?????Frank I never did ask him, and I can't ask him now!
facthunter Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Wouldn't think there was any similarity of style. In articles such as those which appeared under his name a personal fingerprint would inevitably show. Nev 2
Yenn Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Avius and Ross were not compatible as far as I could see.
facthunter Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 One can guess who Avius was and it would be interesting to know but not important in the big scheme of things. The idea might have been OK but it didn't run (in my view). Can't blame people for trying. Nev
Robbo Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Well if no more stuff appear you can guess who it was, simple!
rankamateur Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Well if no more stuff appear you can guess who it was, simple! What about articles held in reserve?
Robbo Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Ahhh, well anything to do with something after his passing.
facthunter Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 People would know and I reckon my assertion would be a pretty safe bet. I don't see why it should be a secret, but there are bigger fish to fry. It doesn't matter.. Nev 1
