Not one of those agencies has such an urgent or pressing need for access that they can't take the time and care to apply for a warrant.

To obtain a warrant they have to convince a judge that they have reasonable grounds to believe an offence has been or is being committed and a warrant to breach privacy is justified in the circumstances.

That's a reasonable protection of liberties balancing rights with obligations and a need to know.

Well, I had a friend who refused to have his kids vaccinated (way back in the 70s) and even had them born at home because he believed that 'The Government' was collecting blood samples etc. for some yet to happen event or experiment. Google (and others) collect brazillians of giga-bytes of data on each of us yet we happily use the internet in ignorant bliss (well, most of us). I still say for everything they know about YOU there's probably ten things they don't know. I just wish they could get their data-analysis right. I have NEVER been on a dating site or trolled for sex yet I get some trollop, three kilometers down the road pop up on my screen saying she wants to (sounds like duck) me. Or, how some silly old fool has the best abs in the world for his age.

It's when they get it wrong and you're dragged off screaming and naked into the night after being accused of some heinous internet crime you never committed.

While we are at it, have a look at the new proposal by #casa for CAR 234.

(3) The pilot in command of an aircraft for a flight commits an offence of strict liability if:

(a) the pilot is subject to a requirement under the instrument made for the purposes of subregulation (1) in relation to the flight; and

(b) the pilot does not comply with the requirement in relation to the flight.

Penalty: 50 penalty units.

(4) The operator of an aircraft commits an offence of strict liability if:

(a) the operator is subject to a requirement under the instrument made for the purposes of subregulation (1) in relation to a flight of the aircraft; and

(b) the operator does not comply with the requirement in relation to the flight.

Penalty: 50 penalty units.

Now this is serious, a fine of over $100/ penalty unit

$5000 fine? How are they going to prosecute that? Why are they going to prosecute that?

CASA employees dreaming up ways to qualify for promotions

They must be getting a %. What a ridiculous situation. Why would a sane person fly an aeroplane for fun in this country? Nev

Imagine the scenario when a family is involved in a plane crash and the family members has to give evidence against the relative piloting the plane to satisfy CASA's thirst for prosecutions.

The value of a penalty unit is currently $180

That makes it a $9000 fine.

In countries like China and India there is deep behind-the-scenes government corruption. Here in Australia it is up front, in the open legalized government theft. And more expensive.

Posted

$ 180 per point is a bit cheap ................. why not make it a round $ 200 per point ? and be done with it

Posted

They'll get there. I can remember when it was only $100.

There are plenty of $40,000 plus strict liability fines already.
