Phil Perry Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 In the last two weeks of her school holiday, 5 and a half year old Amy was fascinated by the building alterations going on at the house next door to her Gran’s in the Sydney suburbs, where she was staying. After a couple of days seeing the little girl sitting on the wall, intently watching their every move,. . . the builders took pity on her and invited her over to the site, told her to go and change out of her dress into some jeans, then they packed out a small hard hat with cardboard and put it on her head, and gave her some small tasks to do, carrying a little tray with mugs of tea out to the bricklayers etc. And at the end of the second week, they all clubbed together and made her up her very own little wage packet envelope, just like all the other guys had, but with about twelve dollars in small change in it as her “wages” . . .well,. . . she was absolutely delighted and skipped back next door to tell her Gran all about it. . When she returned to school on the following Monday morning. . . the teacher asked each of the children to write a short story about what exciting things that they had been doing during the school break. When the teacher read little Amy’s story she was shocked,. . she called Amy out to the front of the class and said,. . “Did you REALLY do this Amy. . ? ? ?” “Yes Miss,. . .I did. . . .it was really interesting, those men taught me all about building. . . and Gran is buying me some toys with my wages Miss. . .” The teacher was dumbfounded and continued,. . " Well,. . .did you FINISH the building work ? ? ? . . .” Little Amy said. . . > > > > > “Well, we EASILY could have, if those fecking wonkers at Austral had delivered the rest of the goddamm bloody fecking bricks on time Miss. . . . . . > 3
