fly_tornado Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 3 fatalities in 2 years, that's not good looks like they are working on the passenger
dazza 38 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Hope its not Paul Bennett Nah I don't think so. It from the Gold Coast Tiger moth joy flight mob at Pimpama. They re opened with change of ownership after the last fatal at Stradbroke a while ago. 1

Paul Bennett flys from Lake Macquarie and Newcastle not far from Cardiff. 1 1

Then tiger moth joy flights must hire it off Paul or something like that. Paul has business interests up here with Tiger Moth Joyflights. I have Paul on face book and nothing has been mentioned. Ryan Campbell is Pauls operations manager up here with Tiger Moth Joyflights and their pilot.
fly_tornado Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 passenger confirmed dead, pilot has spinal injuries 1
JEM Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-28/one-dead-in-light-plane-crash-on-gold-coast/7056524 ABC Report
Robbo Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Young pilot.... Not making assumptions but those Tiger Moths can be like a teenager to control and you need a good amount of time on them to get the "knack" Dazza.... Hope it wasn't Ryan he would be around 21 wouldn't he? Edit: Website suspended http://www.tigermothjoyrides.com.au
SSCBD Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Its blowing a gale here on the coast. Not a fun day for flying. 1
Guest asmol Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 http://web.archive.org/web/20150905060753/http://www.tigermothjoyrides.com.au/ If you want to see their website, they have also taken down Facebook. It really says something when they take down the website and facebook before the injured even make it to hospital. Something i dont really understand ?

Edit: Website suspended http://www.tigermothjoyrides.com.au I think do Robbo, it wasnt long ago when Ryan flew around the world in the cirrus so I guessing he is still quite young. I have know idea who actually was flying the Moth today it maybe Ryan or maybe sonebody else. As mentioned above, it is pretty windy here today but whether that had any bearing on the accident , we will have to wait to find out during the investigation.
dazza 38 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Just a quick update, I just found out from a mate ( who found out via the media) that the pilot is 21 years old and the pax was a gent in his fifties. 1
SSCBD Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 tigers are a real bitch in these winds, and they said in the report it was taking off. 1
Robbo Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 The daughter of the passenger that was killed witnessed the crash. R.I.P 1
David Isaac Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Wouldn't be pleasant in anything like a Tiger in windy gusting conditions. A very sad outcome in any case and absolutely devastating for joy flight companies using historic birds.
Robbo Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Ahhhh what? Don't think he would have had time to make a phone call !! They said the 21-year-old pilot phoned Triple 0 moments before the Tiger Moth crashed shortly after takeoff.
Guernsey Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 They probably meant after the crash. Calling for help? Ambulance etc. 1
Kyle Communications Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Just saw the video shot on news 24 they showed the pilot being loaded into the ambulance ...it looked like Ryan I am afraid. Earlier reports said they were going on beach spotting patrol but not sure if it was a joyflight or not

Something i dont really understand ? Well they don't have a tiger moth anymore so they need to shut it down so people don't buy vouchers. 1
facthunter Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 That's all very sad. Looks to have hit the ground fairly hard. We all regarded the Tiger as one of the safest planes out there, in it's day. Nev 1
Happyflyer Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Just saw the video shot on news 24 they showed the pilot being loaded into the ambulance ...it looked like Ryan I am afraid. Earlier reports said they were going on beach spotting patrol but not sure if it was a joyflight or not I too read the beach patrol comment. I would have thought a Tiger would not be the ideal plane for that. The spotter in the front would have wings in the way for spotting anything directly below. Most reports are saying it was a joy flight with the daughter of the passenger watching. That is the type of operation this Tiger normally takes part in. Lets hope the media stick to the facts.
cscotthendry Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 it was Ryan and he is in a pretty bad way. Very bad news about the pax, RIP. Also not good news about Ryan. I only just finished reading his book about a week ago. Ryan: Get well soon mate! 1
