DonRamsay Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Anyone going to Evans Head this coming weekend 9 & 10 Jan for the Great Eastern Fly-in? I've got the Sling gassed up and ready to go - just need the East Coast Low to go away and we'll be on the way. I've been meaning to go for years but something always got in the way - usually weather. 1
gareth lacey Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Going down Friday leaving Sunday(weather permitting ) cheers gareth
cscotthendry Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 We're hoping to go down Friday and return Monday. But if I can't get a solid read on the weather I won't chance getting stuck there. There has been a lot of rain and flooding further south which doesn't bode well.
BJFly Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I'm going to be heading down for a look. Now my Drifter has sold maybe I'll get lucky and find the perfect aircraft for sale just sitting on the flight line waiting for me to fly it home! We can all dream......
DonRamsay Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Weather's looking good from this end. Not sure about how good Sunday afternoon will be (Wx) so I'll head back home Sunday morning.
Graham Pukallus Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Great Day enjoyed by all, well done to the organisers and everyone that attended and supported this Fly In. Here are some photos of the trip and the event. 11
ianwells Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Thanks for putting the photos up Graham, its looks like a great flyin. We will have to get down there one day. Cheers Ian. 1
damoski Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 We sorely wanted, and planned, to fly up from Sydney basin. booked leave for Friday, hotel, etc. We watched wx all week, but then decided finally on Thursday morning for a No Go. Looking at the glorious blue sky on Friday morning, I didn't chastise myself too much. We had lots of excuses around issues taking off on a soggy airfield fully loaded, and possible boggy airfields enroute in the event we needed one for an out landing, but the key reason was possible rain on the way back and the need to be back at work Monday morning. So - I'll check the weather reports during Sunday in an act of self education/flagellation. At the end of the day, we were on the ground wishing we were in the air, rather than the other way round, and that means there'll be a next time. 4
BJFly Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Hi All, Just returned from Evans Head. An excellent event with the highlight being the amount of warbirds on display & flying. It seemed that every flying machine from powered paragliders, gyros, trikes right on up to the warbirds were in the air. One downer for RAA occurred when right in the middle of a warbird display a drifter flew into the closed airspace and proceeded to do a circuit before landing. The display was cancelled and the crowd missed out on seeing the Mustang perform its simulated ground attack (thanks goes to the pilot of the red drifter with German crosses). All in all a great show, especially if you love the sound of radial engines! 4

flying dog Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 And not one picture had me in it. :( Yeah, it was a great turn out. I was there for 6 days. Wed to Mon.
cscotthendry Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 It was a great Eastern Fly In, although it was fairly humid. I will be posting some video when I have it edited in a couple of days. 1
