Plane and Pilot often has articles on tours around the Bahamas, for Light Sport pilots. It is aimed at the US and Canada as the Bahamas recognises their sport pilot certificates or whatever they have.

Has anyone here done that before, especially with an Australian pilot certificate? I suspect not, and the only way to go international may be a PPL, but I am hoping someone has done it.

Cheers

You do need a PPL, and to apply in advance to get a temporary FAA license which is based on your foreign one.

How long would it take to do a USA sport pilot licence based on the actual plane you would be flying over the water? One assumes this would be after a licence was obtained in Australia.

I'd say about fifteen hours conversion training plus the USA map reading, flight planning, SAR and etc for something that would do the trip comfortably.

Flight time radio podcast covered this extensively some time ago.

There was a young man from Bahamas

Who bought a new pair of pyjamas

He said they look good

And they fit where they should

But they tickle my Huntley and Palmers.

This Limerick was a mystery to me until I visited Old Warden for an air display and saw an old enamel sign advertising Huntley and Palmers Ginger Nuts.
