Rotorwork Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Yes you read right Interesting to see if it had drugs on board. From ASN http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=184172 The Cessna 337 Skymaster appears to have had a landing gear problem. The 68-year-old pilot elected to carry out an emergency landing on "Sea Lane 4-22" a runway reserved for sea planes. The pilot was rescued uninjured, but the plane subsequently sank. Officials are looking at recovering the aircraft. Fly Safe RW http://www.kitv.com/story/31123525/cessna-lands-in-water-off-lagoon-dr-pilot-ok
Jaba-who Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 So OK he executed a very nice ditching. But why ditch and not land it wheels up on the runway or grass on terra firma? As it is now - everything is written off. But if he'd landed on land - a scratched underbelly and probably thats all he would have had. Even if he'd rolled it up in a ball he would have retrieved most of the components. 1
Marty_d Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I guess he decided that ditching was safer (who knows what went thru his mind?) Either way insurance will cover the aircraft, it's what you consider the most likely way to walk (or swim) away alive that's important.
facthunter Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Save your self and forget the plane. I don't know how easy they are to keep straight when landing gear up on Tarmac. It might spear off the edge and roll into a ball. Nev 1
pylon500 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Interesting to note one report states 'A visiting Australian pilot', wasn't Ray Clamback (again)?
