Roscoe Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Has anyone noticed this situation when charging Devices like Ipads, GPS etc through a Cigarette lighter adapter cable? Is there a simple fix? Radio is a Microair 760 Comm. Thanks.
Kyle Communications Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Its the crap switchmode power supplies used to drop the 12v down to 5V...its a huge problem trying to find "clean" switchmode units
Robbo Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 My digital radio cuts out when charging a battery or I have the computer on
biggles Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 May be worth trying one of these Ross , a few have reported good results in minimising interference .... Roscoe Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 Thanks for the quick responses guys. 1
Kyle Communications Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 They are ones I use in my car. I have different ones in the aircraft they are panel mounted ones. There is no interference to my Xcom radio
rankamateur Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Does the nit part of a panel cigarette lighter socket only strip if it is over tightened or is it just part of el-chinese manufacture. Has anyone got a supplier for real lighter socket fittings. If you bump the charger adapter it jumps the thread on the socket.
Kyle Communications Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 the set I got from jaycar was really good. Been trying to find a pic of them
rankamateur Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I got an extra one from out local Jaycar and it was about as good as the ICP one. With the earth on the nut they need to be tight but don't seem capable.
PapaFox Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Avoid the 4.8amp version http://www.jaycar.com.au/Power-Products-Electrical/Power-Conversion-%26-Transformation/12VDC-Power-Supplies/4-8A-Dual-USB-Car-Cigarette-Lighter-Adaptor/p/MP3667 Noisy for music from phone when charging, adds background noise to radio transmissions and plays havoc with our Dynon EMS120. Going back to the previous 2+1 amp adapter that I was using eliminated the problems entirely
rankamateur Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 http://www.clearprop.com.au/for-pilots/technology/cigarette-lighter-usb-3-way-charger-power-supply/ I bought one of these for my plane but won't ever be installing it.
Kyle Communications Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 http://www.jaycar.com.au/Power-Products-Electrical/Power-Conversion-%26-Transformation/12VDC-Power-Supplies/Dual-Port-3-1A-USB-Charger,-Panel-Surface-Mount-12VDC-Input/p/MP3616 I have 2 of these but in a flat plate side by side on my dash and a Jaycar 12V cig lighter socket a very good quality plastic style one with a great panel mount. I will see if i have any pics of them 1
Kyle Communications Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 hahaha yes it is....I have a single cig plug next to that plate. When I get a chance I will take a pic of them in my dash. I thought I had some pics here on my phone but I havent
rankamateur Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I think I will drop one in place of my worst Cig lighter socket. Only need one if I have the charging covered. Need the other one for my Ag GPS.
Kyle Communications Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I use the 4 outlets I have . 1 for the Ipad mini while flying another to charge my phone the other 2 power my GoPro and Nflightcam
rankamateur Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 power my GoPro and Nflightcam See I wont need those two.
Carbon Canary Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Noticed this in the latest issue of Sport Pilot. The inbuilt CO senser is a smart idea assuming it works better than the paper sticker on the dash. I also am assuming they have resolved the noise during charging issue. It ain’t cheap, but you get what you pay for. Interested in any comments or real world experience if anyone has used one yet. https://www.design4pilots.com/categories/useful/products/pilot-co-charger 2
Carbon Canary Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 i guess the other question is do you really need a CO monitor in a Rotax powered aircraft ? The cabin heater on a Rotax engine comes off the water radiator, so less risk of CO entering the cabin by that pathway at least.
facthunter Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 (edited) The entire space inside the cabin runs at below ambient PRESSURE and fumes can enter near the elevator/fin area or any place at all. Nev Edited May 12, 2023 by facthunter expand 2
onetrack Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Once you start moving at more than about 40kmh - in anything with a cabin - the cabin develops negative pressure and fumes can seep in via any opening.
Jabiru7252 Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I threw away the cheap crappy Chinese device and made my own using a three terminal regulator (7805). Worked a treat for what I needed.
Area-51 Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Read somewhere else that iphone ipad etc while in wifi mode will search for networks if not already connected; creates a real racket... noise disappears as soon as wifi connects, or wifi switched off, or after about 40sec but will search again and again... Have installed similar jaycar unit to Kyle above (same but with led volts button)... works well, but again wifi devices such as iphone and gopro create a real racket while looking for networks to handshake with...
