vk3awa Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Hi, Just fitted a new set of main wheel tyres on my Jabiru 120. The tyres were supplied by Jabiru and are Trelleborg brand 4.00 x 4 6ply. Unfortunately, due to the profile of the tyres, they foul on the brake caliper bolts. It appears that suppliers, including Jabiru, are having trouble supplying ribbed tyres. Looking for ideas as to where I can source suitable tyres. THANKS Daryl
Geoff13 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Bit sad when the manufacturer supplies the wrong parts. I would be going back to them first. 2
vk3awa Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Thanks you are right Geoff. Already been down that path and received a refund.
Doug Evans Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Have ya tried these guys : http://www.waggabiketyres.com/lsa_tyres.html 1
vk3awa Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Yeah I have thanks Doug. It seems the supply of suitable ribbed tyres has dried up. I ended up ordering some from SkyShop who are an Australian reseller for Aircraft Spruce. 1
Mackagri Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 yes Trelliberg tyres are great. Just take the caliper bolts out & turn heads of bolts towards tyre. done 50 hrs ago. 1 1
Keith Page Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Have ya tried these guys : http://www.waggabiketyres.com/lsa_tyres.html They are special Doug I get all my tyres from there. I must be easy pleased as I am always happy with them. KP. 1
Doug Evans Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I was going to order some tundra tyres but pick up a second hand set
vk3awa Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Mackgrl, I'm not sure how turning the caliper bolt around would help. Still have to fit a nut which would also foul on the tyre. How did you overcome? Cheers Daryl
Mackagri Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 The head is narrower than the nut , so if the head faces the tyre & nut faces centre of the a/c it will just clear the tyre. I asked Jabiru service if this was ok & said it was correct.( put washer under nut not the bolt.) We are getting much more life out of the Trellibergs . Cheers Dave.
vk3awa Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 THANKS Dave, Tried that. No good. Bolt head still rubs on tyre wall. Cheers Daryl
facthunter Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 The bolt head without a washer is much thinner than a nut and washer You might deepen the spot facing on the caliper IF it doesn't weaken it. You can round the edges of the nut as well provided there is enough hex to hold it when tightening the nut. Nev

Mackagri Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Daryl, my bolts just clear the tyre. I agree with Nev, Just deepen the caliper by 1mm. Dave
