Gnarly Gnu Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Doesn't sound too good, I pray he lives and recovers from this: " [/url]A MAN in his 30s was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after his glider crash landed in the Riverland on Saturday afternoon. Authorities were called to the Waikerie Airfield at 3.45pm amid reports a glider had “crash landed”. Witnesses reported to police how the pilot, who has not been named, may have crashed into vineyards near the airport, located almost 4km east of Waikerie." [Later in the article it says he was in his 60's].
cooperplace Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 yeah, I saw that. I don't like the "initially he was Ok then his condition deteriorated" stuff. Sounds like internal bleeding, eg ruptured spleen can present like that. They said he landed in vineyards. They look a bit like tank traps, metaphorically speaking. hope he's OK.
bushcaddy105 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Tonight's TV news pics showed a badly damaged aircraft, although it's hard to know how much of this was as a result of the rescue.
facthunter Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Having owned and run a vineyard for 7 years, a while ago, I wouldn't like to land in one. Wires everywhere. Nev
Happyflyer Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 TV news showed power lines very close to the crash site. If the glider has hit power lines it could explain why it ended up in the vineyard.
cooperplace Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Advertiser reports he's in a stable condition, which I guess is good news: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/glider-pilot-seriously-injured-after-crash-landing-at-waikerie-airfield-in-the-riverland/news-story/89c74cf69090f50eab286d4b275a18bf hope he makes a speedy recovery. 1
