alf jessup Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 RIP old mate, you lived your dream and passed doing what you loved
Rotorwork Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Once again, like last month, February was almost fatality free. Hopefully March will be a good month. Sympathy to family and friends. RIP Rod Fly Safe RW 1
DrZoos Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 RIP Fellow aviator and sincere condolences to friends and family.
planedriver Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Being a local, he had hopes of building up the popularity of the strip, but the terrain was somewhat against him. It's rather akin to Wedderburn in a EFAT situation. RIP old mate.
K-man Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Following the posting of the picture above I did a quick search for that rego. It's not the first time that Jabi has had problems. The following was posted nearly 9 years back. There was a news story on our local Prime TV.Aircraft was a Jabiru, rego 55-3692. It was a training flight and the students second flight. Instructor was an eldery gentleman named Rod Hay. Unknown what airfield they were from. Rod said that there was a lot of vibration coming from the engine and then it died. He put it down on a slope in a paddock. He said he pointed it up the hill and pitched it up. It looked like a fair amount of damage to the landing gear. Both occupants unhurt. RIP.
Jabiru Phil Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/pilot-rodney-hay-who-died-in-plane-crash-had-survived-nine-emergency-landings-20160228-gn5lus.html 1
K-man Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Another search shows that number is not currently registered. It was removed from the register in 2010. 1
jetjr Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Had a prang, was removed maybe for lengthy repairs. Doesn't mean it wasn't reg now.
DrZoos Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 In the accident above , the student sued and lost , Rods case was the one that got the nod from the judge to say that trainee pilots accept they are doing a dangerous activity... 4
K-man Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Had a prang, was removed maybe for lengthy repairs. Doesn't mean it wasn't reg now. True, but it's not on the current register. http://flysafe.raa.asn.au/admin/aircraft_database_registration.html
jetjr Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Old list, Dont think details are public anymore says current 31 Jan 2012
Geoff13 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Current Dec 2012. There has not been a public current register since I joined nearly 2 years ago.
Litespeed Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Rip mate as others have said. You died doing what you love after 60 years of flight. We should all be so lucky to have so long in the air. Pity it was not 60 more. You will be missed. 2 1
red750 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 The aircraft type for a given reg number can be found at AustAirData.com.au/search. Enter either the registration, type, constructor's number or previous registration. For example, enter VH-XZG and get Enter VH-CFK and get Reg VH-DRC is listed because this aircraft was prevously registered VH-CFK. Click on a rego and get Damaged & restored. No further details. Applies to RA-Aus aircraft as well. 1
SDQDI Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Actually found my hornet but not much detail there. Wasn't any details of me, it did have my serial number as the constructors number and date of first rego but that was about the limit of the details Still interesting though
red750 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Wasn't any details of me Many owners, particularly RAA, don't want their details published. There are a few sites which list plenty of detail for GA and commercial aircraft, including the CASA website. But if you have a reg and need/want to know the type, this site appears to fill the bill.
Jabiru Phil Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Civil aircraft register | Civil Aviation Safety Authority https://www.casa.gov.au › standard-page This gives you details of a particular aircraft including owner name and address, manufactured date etc. Only GA.
red750 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 My favorite reference site for all but RAA is '16right.com/getrego.php'. The home page, 16right.com, has some great photos of arrivals at Sydney, constantly updated. Below is an example of the results screen. Also has an international search.
red750 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 None of these site cover RAA. AustAirData does to a certain degree. Enter Sonex Waiex and you get all, GA and RAA. Click on a rego (in this instance the first RAA rego), and get these details. Even RAA don't provide up to date info like this, limited and all as it is.. Some will have more info, including a photo:
kasper Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 AustAirData is out of date - just checked my aircraft and the status of registration there is as per 2012 and not 2016.
red750 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I guess they only have access to the old RAA list. If RAA don't keep it up to date, it's hard for anyone else to get access. Or it's kept under lock and key.
KRviator Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 As it should be. You can't Google any old car rego, boat, trailer or truck rego willy-nilly. Why is my plane different? 5
Geoff13 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 As it should be. You can't Google any old car rego, boat, trailer or truck rego willy-nilly. Why is my plane different? Yes you can. https://www.service.transport.qld.gov.au/checkrego/application/TermAndConditions.xhtml?windowId=9a7 1 1
