My life flying in Indonesia - Vlog

Recommended Posts

So Mike when are you going to make Captain?David

Hi David, I am hoping it will be this year. Hours wise I fill all their requirements, it is just about waiting my turn now. Things seem to moving along though.

Mike,You are operating into some very famous WW2 strips (Biak, Merauke etc.). Have you done any exploring to see any WW2 wrecks? If so, do you have any photos? If you were bored and heard any rumors of wrecks from locals, could you video an expedition to see them?

Dave

Hi Dave, there are some wrecks around. I haven't been able to go see any except for in Biak. There is a website www.pacificwrecks.com that has pretty useful info. Also time wise, while I am on tour we tend not to get enough time to head to far, but when I have my 2 weeks off I have some plans to go check them out. I will make some videos of that for sure!

I hope you enjoy the next one!

Mike a hard week eh...39.7 hrs...you need another holiday mate.. 001_smile.gif.2cb759f06c4678ed4757932a99c02fa0.gif Tell me, do the public have to pay for flights there or do the villagers have some sort of government subsidy, I would have thought that a lot of the people there would not have the money to fly.

Hi David, it was a long week! Managed to max out my 100hrs in 3 weeks, so now have a week of just relaxing as my hours don't drop until the 21st:) We do regular flights and we also have contracts with the government where they subsidize the flights. Locals fly on all routes but some are subsidized and others not. The very remote strips are the ones that are much cheaper. But still the price of a flight can be a quarter of a locals monthly salary:/ Holidays are just around the corner:) Will be going back home for a month:)

Hope you enjoy the next one:)

I dunno how you can find the time to make the videos, I get bored and lazy to just mount a suction mount on the windscreen for the go pro let alone film every flight and then edit it.

I am not good looking enough to be in front of a camera :)

Hi Robbo, to be honest I have to force myself to edit every now and then. Some days if I only get back home at 5ish and then still have to edit a video (takes me about 2 hours) it is quite a lot to handle. However I am getting better and more efficient with it, and do enjoy it and feel proud once I have uploaded it. Talking to the camera is something I am still getting used to, I find myself getting shy on occasion especially if there is a bit of a crowd around. I do also film in a way which makes it easy to edit. Most of the clips I take are no longer than 20sec, it just makes it easier to choose what I want to put in the final video:)

Give it a go, I'm sure you'll find it satisfying once you edit a few.

Beautiful strip in the mountains there, bit more exciting going in there.. time you got on the Porter ;)

The Porter is what I am aiming for:) slowly but surely. Will hopefully be close to it by the end of this year:)

Nailed it on the head! It is just an amazing place to live and fly. obviously with the exception here and there though;) Ha ha It will take a little longer for me to master the language, but getting there:)

Thanks so much for watching!

Brilliant Mike! Looks like a lot of fun!

It is by far the best flying I have done, Nambia is a close second though. Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it!
