Guest Andys@coffs Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 The RAAF is having one of its big Airshows this weekend at RAAF Edinburgh in SA and as such has activated R259, SFC-1500ft. As such most activity at Gawler is effectively cancelled this weekend. Any aviators contemplating a visit should be aware of the daily activation and conclussion times for R259 such that they dont inadvertantly penetrate controlled airspace and become a radome adornment for an F111 or F18 that have been, and will continue, to convert avtur into noise and smoke. In the case of the F111, quite spectacularly so as it does its dump and burn. (Or more accurately burn, as in AB's and dump). Perhaps for one of the last time in the context of an SA based RAAF Airshow. Super hornets may be super... or so the OEM would have us believe... but nothing it does is like the visual splendor of the F111. Can you tell I used to work on them.... Had the pleasure of a flight in one as well, 200ft hard ride on the terrain following radar up a valley, over the top of a dam wall and down over the water.:ah_oh: Not much that flys is capable of exceeding mach at ground level!! The jabby's good but there is a slight performance gap....Maybe if I fitted the 8cyl... Andy
Admin Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I tried to phone one of the Roulettes (no.7) today but he was enroute to SA so obviously they will be there as well
