Was trolling around youtube looking at some of the latest ideas in flying cars and found this;

Looks like it got developed and produced even further than the Molt Taylor Aerocar, but got killed by

bureaucracy.

I actually prefer that idea to the versions of today's flying cars. 020_yes.gif.58d361886eb042a872e78a875908e414.gif

front transaxle cleverly hidden as well as steering linkages.. the airphipian actually was certified and now the inventor (aged 90) and his son are looking at putting it back into production. The same factors that killed it off last time I think will hinder its rebirth and that will be its cost against performance.. the original had a range of 375 miles, cruise speed of 95kts and todays money $375K (USD)

If the XTI Trifan ever makes it to the sky, sky cars will be redundant. Why have a car that makes compromises as an aircraft, or an aircraft that makes compromises as a car?

Because cost. the Trifan will be unaffordable for most everybody while the Airphibian foundation could be made rather cheaply.

Surely it'd be a lot simpler doing this concept as a trike... have some way of drive conversion and take the wing off. Sorted.
