I was there at around 10.30am today and we were standing out near the taxi way watching the schools aircraft come in and take off when we saw the Tiger moth land on the grass and were stunned to see it almost flip over, it was very close, I thought it was gone, so to here that it actually did flip over does not surprise me...I don't know what was going on there this morning with that aircraft, has it been confirmed that it did actually go over?

Photos on Queensland Airport Spotters Facebook page showing the aircraft being flipped back over and being towed back in (can see the damage in this photo).

The pics look like VH-BJE, if I recall correctly it operates joy flights there.

Pretty sure thats it. There is only one Red one out of YRED as far as know, and thats the one that does the joy flights.

notice the tailCfF-py7UMAEsmMk.jpg

and the incredibly short prop ... engine turning at forward roll time

Love what the angles have done to the shadow in this pic - wings everywhere and very swept

The guy that owns that plane has had it for many years I believe and it was his pride and joy, I will add that I don't think he was flying it at the time....he would be heart broken I think to see it like that...I hope he can restore it to it previous condition.

There's a 3 page article on VH-BJE in the AOPA magazine "Australian Pilot" (Feb-March 2016) p.24-26 "Woc's Flying Lifestyle". He has owned the plane 40 years and in 1996 started joy flights. Sad to see it down with a rash. Being a LAME Woc will be able to nurse her back to health.

How long ago was the latest paint style? It had a camouflage paint job when he had it in Townsville. - but now I think about that would have been the 80s.

The article doesn't mention a change of livery or Townsville, but briefly covers Woc's experience and career (including a tangent into motor cycles & antique Jags), planes he has flown and features his business, Antique Airways and joy flights from Redcliffe. It is mostly photos of the plane and scenery. I could scan it if you are interested.

Thanks Sue, no worries just I didn't recognise the aircraft until I searched the rego and discovered it belonged to Warrick.

Hello Everyone, Have been a member for a while but hadn't sent any messages, or rather didn't,t know how to, so what made me prick my ears was the mention of the tiger flipping at Redcliffe.Thinking I recognised the rego. VH BJE, I looked up my late fathers log book and it was one of the tiger moths he had trained in at Rockhampton Aero Club in 1953. By the photos posted it looked to be in good condition, hope not too much damage. Would love to have a lap in it. Other tigers he flew there were VH AYW , VH CEJ ,VH AQD and VH GWB. Andy
