Had my first training flight with Bruce from Fly Illawarra this afternoon!

I had previously clocked up about 30hrs of flying 17 years ago before money and life got in the way, so needless to say i was pretty excited today to go flying again. Almost didn't happen due to the rainy weather and wind gusting up to 25kts. Not ideal weather to resume my flying career but im glad I went up.... it was awesome!

Very impressed with the little Jabiru 170 and the instructor Bruce. Took some video footage of the flight which i hope to edit over the next week and share if its OK with the instructor.

Fortunately and unfortunately 'Wings over Illawarra' is on next weekend at my airport YWOL so no flying lesson but it will be great to check out all the aircraft coming in for the show. Cant wait for the next lesson in a couple of weeks though :)

Everything has to start somewhere but I really didn't get going till I went back to Newcastle. (District Park). I had done years of building models by then so the principles of flight are sort of understood. The biggest problem was finding the money. What's changed in that respect? Nev

Hey mate,

welcome, I did pretty much the same as you, gave up flying for around eighteen years due to family, work ect. I have redone my license and gained a few endorsments in a Jab 230 and a drifter have enjoyed every aspect of flying again. I hope that you have a great time during your training and that the weather gods are kind and you can smash a few hours out.

Thanks mate. I'm going to do things a bit differently this time around. Enjoy each stage of my license rather than looking to far ahead. In saying that, my training school has a 230 too and I'm looking forward to trying that ...lol.

I found it a great aircraft to re learn all of those rusty skills on, I was hanging out for the weekends so I could go for a fly and tried to make the most of each lesson. I was doing what you have just said and was taking each opportunity as it came and tried to enjoy it as much as possible, even the endless circuit training. I hope that you enjoy it and get as much fun out of the training that I have.

Cheers, Kev.
