red750 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Apparently there was an open day at Essendon today. I only heard it mentioned briefly on the radio last night and was not in a position to attend. Did anyone else get along - a report would be nice.
Jay_1984 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Hey red, The wifey and I went this afternoon. Not much there really as far as aviation goes. Aircraft on display were: Dornier 228 - GAM Charter Turbo Commander - GAM Charter Shrike Commander - GAM Charter DC3 - Air Nostalgia and Gooney Bird King Air 90 Cessna Citation Sovereign Learjet 35A - Airjet Rescue Cessna 340A TS-11 Iskra - Short Stop Charter Harvard Trainer - Short Stop Charter All were basically left unattended and locked up apart from the DC-3's which offered people a look inside, GAM were letting people sit at the controls of the Shrike and the Learjet had the front hatch open but you couldn't get inside. Inside the terminal there were about a dozen stalls - Linfox, FAA Academy, Free Spirit Airlines and the rest were local businesses. Out front of the terminal there were 6 food vans and a Rotary stall/sausage sizzle. We were only there for about 30mins then left as we'd seen everything (That was aviation related) It was a shame because there were a lot of visitors there, but not a lot of effort on the part of the organisers to actively show off aviation to the public or to remind the people of the value of Essendon in the community (Police, Air Ambulance, Fire fighting and customs).
red750 Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Thanks Jay. I've seen (and photographed) most of those, so I didn't miss much.
