bexrbetter Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Because they can't respect the weight limits for ULMs in France if they have bodies ;) Bahaha! True story, guess what the name of my file is, because I reckon they look like mad Frenchmen, and bald of course (France is number one for men's baldness) notice the date .. 1
geoffreywh Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 so how will you join the front and rear fuselage sections nicely without a " carry through" ? The rear section looks terrific!...............And, four point harness mounting points please. Lap/sash doesn't cut it.....
kgwilson Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 What is the point of the inner skin? Surely this just adds weight and complexity as the outer skin will provide rigidity assuming it as aluminium.
bexrbetter Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 What is the point of the inner skin? Surely this just adds weight and complexity as the outer skin will provide rigidity assuming it as aluminium. The completed structure, with inner and outer skin applied, forms in essence a RHS tube. The outer and inner skins are shear webs. No need for diagonal bracing. Not even the need for as many verticals (to stop buckling) but I didn't want any oil canning or waving. "Complex"? - it most certainly is not, can't you see how simple it is? I just put it together myself, and I know first hand it's easy and fast. It's also cheaper and easier to supply, it's cheaper and easier to ship, it's cheaper, easier and faster to build. Not heavy. ... and don't call me Shirley. 2 1 2
bexrbetter Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 so how will you join the front and rear fuselage sections nicely without a " carry through" ? . You can see the inner joining plate in the pictures above forward of the rear bulkhead, the grey multi-hole vertical. There will be a substantial outer joining plate, as well as an overhead tube from the top of the roll bar to the front half. ..And, four point harness mounting points please. Lap/sash doesn't cut it..... The crossover bar on the roll bar provides the mounting point for a harness. 1 1

bexrbetter Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Hu called u shirley I'm on my wait out to meet Hu right now, and Chen and Wang and Bob.
skeptic36 Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 I'm on my wait out to meet Hu right now, and Chen and Wang and Bob. Why, to find out where they stuffed up the translation in the instruction manual that made you put the thing together inside out?
bexrbetter Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Why, Sichuan Hotpot actually ,,, ...bye. 6
bexrbetter Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Cha? Nah, it's boiled, no chance of burning.
bexrbetter Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Soooo, Went in this afternoon and put the tail post on, adding some bracing inside the rear half, and stuck the front halves and firewall on ... 6
Head in the clouds Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Now you're onto something. I particularly like the strength in the cabin sides - they shouldn't fold up and crush the occupants like the early unmodified RV6s seemed to. Just one small thing - the lightening holes in the rudder-post don't reduce the weight very much at all but they do allow mud wasps to build their heavy nests inside, which also have the potential to interfere with controls when they rattle loose. Similar with the HS spar when you get to that.
Guernsey Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Next project a two seater with the passenger in the rear facing backwards (back to back with the pilot) Alan.
bexrbetter Posted January 8, 2017 Author Posted January 8, 2017 Next project a two seater with the passenger in the rear facing backwards (back to back with the pilot) Wouldn't divorce be easier? Logically that is best for a fast, cheap, 4 seater config as it keeps the CoG in a tight package such as the White Lightning which I believe is related to the Lightning Bug our esteemed member 'Fly Vulcan' is involved with. Personally I hate traveling backwards, many China trains are setup like that. White Lightning Kit Plane Also I would like to take a moment to apologise to our Climate Change Community for my extreme methane and sulfur additions to the atmosphere this morning after my Sichuan Hotpot last night. 4
Marty_d Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Also I would like to take a moment to apologise to our Climate Change Community for my extreme methane and sulfur additions to the atmosphere this morning after my Sichuan Hotpot last night. Apologise to your wife instead... thankfully the rest of us don't have to share a bed with you... 2

bexrbetter Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 So this morning I had the side panels lasered and folded. Bit hard to see but all the pilot holes are there so you just pop the drill through without measuring or mucking around. The panels fit snugly so you just simply line them up, push them on, then drill away. All these panels are sitting their on their own. All the measuring, scribing and pin punching work has been completely eliminated, and of course the laser is deadly accurate and makes left and right sides alignment near perfect. 4 1
bexrbetter Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 This is as easy as it gets, pop it in place, start drilling. 4
bexrbetter Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 What is the point of the inner skin? Surely this just adds weight Weighed it today, 2 kgs over a Morgan frame but actually I have a large steel 'floor to roof' rollbar. .. and don't call you Ashley. 1
