bexrbetter Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Yes he is back here in Oz I think he heads back tomorrow or the next day. I caught up with him last weekend for a chat and a feed at the local pub here. Indeed back after a hectic schedule. I was intending to visit a few RF Members but only got to 'Kyle Communications' as he was just down the road from my Daughter. The Kyle's are lovely people too, recommend any RF Member gets up that way to stop by.
bexrbetter Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 So I threw the sides on today, gearing up for a fuselage load test sometime soon ... 6 1
planedriver Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Good on you Bex, that's really starting to look good mate. Do you have any projections of what the finished product will possibly look like? Rgds Planey 1
bexrbetter Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 Do you have any projections of what the finished product will possibly look like? Rgds Planey Over the next week you will get a better impression as more external panels get fitted.. 1 1
planedriver Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 WOW! that looks intriguing, but we all know that you enjoy keeping us in suspense, or wondering whether you'll ever be fitting coil-overs to keep it flat in a ground-loop situation.
rgmwa Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Over the next week you will get a better impression as more external panels get fitted.. Bex, I feel I should warn you that while your chief designer is a well known nuclear specialist, his credentials as an aircraft designer may be suspect. rgmwa 2
bexrbetter Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Laser cut and fitted the rear floor panel yesterday. Happy with the way I folded the tops and bottoms of the sides over the longerons so that the floor simply slips in between the lower longeron and the side. This also adds strength with negligible weight, and looks better on the corners. No pictures, but here is a diagram of what I mean .. 4
bexrbetter Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 So just sitting around waiting for the rear wing (HS) to be lasered as we speak ... 2
bexrbetter Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 So got back to the shop with the parts. I also made dies to fold the ribs around and it worked better than I hoped first time out, wish it was always like that. 3
Kyle Communications Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 looks spectacular Bex Got to love lasercutters 1
bexrbetter Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 Got to love lasercutters What I love is if you change a part later, new design or damaged, you merely remove the old part and the new part fits perfectly back onto the old rivet holes such is the accuracy of the computer file and laser cut. Doesn't matter how good you think you are with measuring, a pinpunch and drill, you can't get close to the same accuracy. 2
planedriver Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Looks Brilliant! I think our mate Marty from Tassie needs a holiday over your way, but that may spoil his fun. I admire what he's achieving as well. 1 1

planedriver Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Be hard not to have Marty. The speed and accuracy of fabrication is amazing. 2
bexrbetter Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 I've got laser envy. You can do wonders with a cheap hand held plasma cutter, it's all in the guide pattern you make for the job.
johnm Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 and I assume no drill swarf floating around with laser manufacture ? ............. which I think would be a good selling point ?
bexrbetter Posted February 23, 2017 Author Posted February 23, 2017 So getting the horizontal stab and elevator together these days, and another picture of the rear floor with a few more rivets in it ... 8 1
bexrbetter Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 I keep a couple of lasered strips with pilt holes around for this purpose, clamp the strip on the part, or parts to be joined, drill the pilot holes then drill to whatever size you want and end up with a straight, evenly spaced rivet line ... 4
rgmwa Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I also made dies to fold the ribs around and it worked better than I hoped first time out, wish it was always like that. What did you make the dies our of Bex? rgmwa
bexrbetter Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 What did you make the dies our of Bex?rgmwa 2 x 5mm steel plates (lasered, matching bolt holes with the rib) sanded a radius on the inner edge, works a treat. Plastic hammer, and Robert's your Uncle. 4 1
bexrbetter Posted February 25, 2017 Author Posted February 25, 2017 The HS is coming together bit by bit ... and the steel dies for the ribs I mentioned above .. 4
bexrbetter Posted February 26, 2017 Author Posted February 26, 2017 Sorting out the mounts, sheeting and elevator hinging, it's all just slapped together here and very NOT finished ... 6
