Bruce Tuncks Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Old Koreelah, with your retardant setup, you are way ahead of most of us and I congratulate you. I can't improve on facthunter's and David Isaacs advice. Just how you would use those cowl flaps in a fire depends on your assessment of where the fire came from. Hey cowl flaps are pretty good things to have even without a fire. I would like to have them on my Jabiru to have more control over the temperatures. 1
Old Koreelah Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 They are ideal for a Jab engine Bruce, but one more thing to think about. I close them down on descent to reduce the rate of cooling (and keep some heat in the system to combat carby ice) but it's easy to forget to open then again if you go around. The ideal is automatic adjustments, but until then I'm working on some "compromise" settings to reduce the workload. 1
