TonyTheATC Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Hi all Currently sitting on the other side of the planet, working the nightshift over in South Africa. Keen to learn more about the aviation community and industry over in Australia! I am a Tower Controller based in Durban, working from the King Shaka International Airport. I have previous experience working at Virginia Regional Airport earlier in my career. If any one here would like any information about South African aviation, or the country as a whole...feel free to give me a shout! I will do my best to offer any advice and suggestions. Cheers...dont forget the flypast of the tower! TonyTheATC The view from the Virginia... 2
Yenn Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Welcome Tony Nice fly past, is that at the airport you work at. I reckon SA would be a good country for flying, good weather and plenty of space. I have only been to Joburg, Cape Town and the SW cape area with a trip to Kruger and Mkusi National parks. Loved it, but it was just after the fall of apartheid when they were having the reconciliation cases. Seems a long time ago.
TonyTheATC Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Hi Yenn Nope not anymore, that is Virginia, a small regional airport based about 10nm South West of the bigger King Shaka International Airport. The Virginia ATZ (GND/1000ft) actually lies within the King Shaka CTR (GND/3000ft). There is another picture of the flypast I would like to post, but I just cant find it. He came past us at window level that you can see the passenger's "thumbs up" as they passed! Flying here is great, and Durban being at sea level means we get the machines at max performance...which usually means some awesome flying! My current view
