Being the father of 2 wonderful kids I hate fathers day with a passion....commercialism has made an opportunity to make money out of guilt !

Think of the many without fathers , of my best friend who took his own life and left behind 3 beautiful kids and a wife.

This is such a waste of time and money.

Next Fathers Day ask your Kids to donate to a worthy charity... if your like me you already have too many socks .

Happy Fathers Day

It has all been overly commercialised, Christmas, Easter, fathers and mothers days ect ect ect.

It seems if you don't buy something for someone you are the worst in the world. As far as I can see the idea to have a set day to remember things is a good idea but is totally ruined by the commercialisation of them. This last Christmas we refused to buy presents for anyone except our own kiddies and told our immediate family to not buy anything for us and to spend it on their own kiddies.

We still got together and had a great catchup but without the whole worry of "did we buy cousin so and so a good enough gift?" Or "oh no they spent more on us than we did on them!". So as we go forward we will be shunning spending every last cent on useless unwanted gifts and focusing more on catching up with family, IMO much more valuable and a lot less stress. (Ok family still causes stress but at least there is less of it!)

Think of it as "kid's day". They're the ones who love to run in and jump on you at 6:30am with the gifts from Bunnings.

Took mine fishing off a local wharf today, despite only catching 1 tiddler they had a ball.

I see Fathers Day as a day when I receive things that I wouldn't generally buy for myself but love to have plus seeing my daughter spend time in the kitchen making me lemon meringue pie

Don't the leg irons put you off the pie? Nev

Doesn't matter when I am sitting down in my recliner chair watching Netflix eating Lemon Meringue Pie and having a glass of the newly released Johnny Walker Select Cask whisky

My daughter and her partener took the wife and I out to tea last night. When she commented that she never knew what to buy me any more I replied that she had just given me the perfect gift.

What could be better than a couple of hours of your childs time.

I saw the grandkids, briefly yesterday when they came out of the TV room. Apparently there was an exciting show that seven kids could not miss. Meanwhile the adults had a nice catch up and Father's Day.
