planedriver Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Just came back from seeing the movie "Sully" and wondered who else has seen it, and what you thought? Personally, I loved it. I thought Tom Hanks and the rest cast did a brilliant job and I may even go and see it again, which is something I can't recall ever doing before. How the authorities tried to prove that he could have made it to two of the available airports was cruel, but i'll say no more. Can thoroughly recommend seeing the movie. 5
RKW Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Really good movie Planey. Agree with your sentiments.

Its a good movie not a documentary. They had to have a baddie and the NTSB investigators were made out to be villains. The investigators are not happy with how they are shown in the movie. US aviation investigators say they’re unfairly villainized in Clint Eastwood’s film “Sully” 1 1
bexrbetter Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 The investigators are not happy with how they are shown in the movie. US aviation investigators say they’re unfairly villainized in Clint Eastwood’s film “Sully” I am surprised at their response (and very difficult to express deadpan in a forum post! ). 1
onetrack Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Most importantly, does the landing on the Hudson end with the Airbus exploding in a massive fireball, just as the last passenger steps off it?? Wouldn't be Clint Eastwood and Hollywood, if it didn't. Oh, and I trust there was the regular amount of gunplay, and crazies with assault rifles included. Did Tom Hanks say in it, somewhere, "Go ahead - Make my day!!" If he did, I'm off to see it, pronto!! 1
planedriver Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Going this week If you don't like it, sorry, but i'd think you are a bit whierd, but I'm sure that won't be the case. Let me know what you think?
Robbo Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I think im weird either way, watch all the agree likes come through lol Girls have already told me its awesome and they hate flying
spacesailor Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Just an aside, The Mt Erebus crash in the antarctic, THEY (we know who there are) tried to blame the pilot for bad navigation, raided his home to take everything from there. Even though the government Changed the flight map to remove a mistake that all pilots knew about, Without telling anyone. spacesailor 1
alf jessup Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Great movie, great cast and director Another classic from Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood Loved it PS make sure you stay for the credits until the end
Marty_d Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Good to hear folks like it, it's getting good reviews generally too. Looking forward to seeing it.
Birdseye Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Enjoyable and no glaring technical errors I noticed. If there is any truth at all about the conduct of the simulations, then the NTSB have nothing to shout about.
facthunter Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Air NZ is a national Icon. Yes crook stuff was done there, but you don't EVER just rely on ONE aid where lowest safe altitudes are concerned .Nev 1
turboplanner Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 PS make sure you stay for the credits until the end Agree! 1

Those who've never really thought about their obligations to their passengers, and sliding the pieces of cheese around to cover the holes won't be though. Awesome film.
motzartmerv Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Great movie, and some little pilot Gems hidden throughout ;) 3
planedriver Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Good to see active again Andy. Your contributions to this site have always been appreciated. Kind Regards Planey PS if you catch up with Tomo, give him a nudge too. 1 2
Litespeed Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 ABC site has a article by local academics on "Sully" a good read, fair and to the point. Will see the movie when I can. Why Sully's 'Miracle on the Hudson' was no crash landing 1
planedriver Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Don't miss it Litespeed, you'll be kicking yourself.
DGL Fox Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Not to interested I know how it ends... David 3
Marty_d Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Not to interested I know how it ends...David Well the Titanic story was a bit like that too, but they made a pretty decent movie about it. 2 1
Robbo Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Aside from the movie, bit disappointed with the whole incident. I am always hearing about the Captain (Sully) but what about the FO Jeff Skiles, you never hear about him much. It was not just Sully flying that aircraft !! Also the cabin crew was involved, seems all we hear is Sully the hero ! Jeff Skiles Speaker - Co-Pilot of U.S. Airways Flight 1549, "The Miracle on the Hudson" - Keynote Fee & Cost Info - Book Today! 2
planedriver Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 For sure, it was a great TEAM effort Robbo, but that extra stripe seems to count a lot. Frequently, there seems to be an underdog who lacks notable recognition, who's also a very important part of the overall equation. 1
