Admin Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I am now looking at the Post Likes System. Currently we have: Firstly, we have 9 likes however 8 different likes is the optimum number for display on various sized screens. If we reduced them to 8, which one should go and 2, to which other like should the existing likes for that one go to? Also, do we have the best Titles for the Likes? Finally, what are the best images do we use for the Likes? Oh, also you can see they are all "Positive" Likes...should we have a "Neutral" or even a "Negative" Like? Over to you, what would you "Like"...excuse the pun
pmccarthy Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Optimistic deems to offend some people as they take it as sarcasm. Usually accidental because the button is on the right on an i-thingy. 1
frank marriott Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Maybe a "don't agree" . Many opinions differ on many subjects and indicating that one does not agree is not insulting or attacking the poster but just indicating that it not necessarily a universally held view. 2
facthunter Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 There would be some obligation to say WHY I would expect soon after if there was a "don't agree". I reckon the only real guaranteed positives are" winner" "agree" and" like" with possibly "like" not making it either. FUNNY can be humorous or just FUNNY..... sort of dumb/weird. Helpful is "nice". Nev
facthunter Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Yes... .add helpful . Winner doesn't get it? Whiner?? Nev
Admin Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Isn't Helpful and Informative the same?
Robbo Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Not really, informative could advise you of something and helpful could mean you have helped someone do something. Ahh as I type that you may be right.
facthunter Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Informative is a simpler action. Helpful involves an effect of assisting. Plenty of overlap in some situations I guess. Nev
DWF Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 How about "Groan!" I could have used that one more than once. 1
SDQDI Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I like the system as it is but if you need to remove one I think either creative or optimistic should go as they are the most negative of them all. As far as a disagree button goes, I thought we tried the thumbs down and I don't think it was total success. 1
PA. Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Isn't Helpful and Informative the same? Informative. Hey there is a knife in your back. Helpful. Would you like to me to pull the knife in your back out? 1
Robbo Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Theres to many options.. Only need a couple. So maybe Agree Disagree Like Informative 3
onetrack Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 8 choices is good. "Creative" is the one I find is pretty useless. All the rest are very useful to have, and I wish more forums had these.
bexrbetter Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I would replace 'optimistic' with 'don't agree'. And I don't agree that you are obliged to state why. I think 'like' and 'friendly' are close enough to dump 'friendly'.
FlyingVizsla Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I don't see "friendly" used much, could go in with "helpful". The spanner symbol looks like a pineapple or chicken piece to me (I must be on a diet) rather than a helpful / useful symbol. The only other is "creative" which might go into "Optimistic" I would keep Like, Agree, Funny, Winner, Informative. The others ... don't see them used much except for "optimistic" by people really wanting to say "disagree". A "negative" Like - don't agree - will cause more trouble than it is worth.
Admin Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Here is my thoughts on the 8 as a suggestion only - Agree (current Agree) - Caution (move current Optimistic + Creative - used for posts that may be a bit dangerous) - Funny (current Funny) - Helpful (current Helpful) - Informative (current Informative + Friendly) - Like (current Like) - More - Winner (or Congrats?) (current Winner)
onetrack Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Under what circumstances would "caution" be needed? As in, "Caution! - I smell BS, and someone out of their depth?" Or, "Caution! - you're likely to be stepping on toes"?
Admin Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 My thoughts on Caution is when a post may be a bit dangerous in perhaps Maintenance, Flying etc...although it could get abused
Robbo Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Personally I think there are to many choices, I would be sticking with only four. Agree Like Informative Disagree 1
Admin Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Using the 8 Likes I suggested (still to be confirmed based on discussion) you can see that the spacing between the 8 Likes is greater than the spacing we currently have for 9 Likes making it easier to be more specific on taps. Also on mobile devices they are spread evenly across the bottom of a post: 1
