dan tonner Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Welcome OP; I learned to fly at 65; built my Savannah at 66 and entered my 70th year (turned 69) last July. Very refreshing to hear from you and others "of a certain age" in this forum. Perhaps someday, when its needed, we'll launch an "Old Farts Forum" to discuss issues like: how to get in and out of a Savannah; or ...where to store the keys so you can always find them; ...or making flight plans that never exceed 60 minutes.... Fly safely, best of the season to you all, Canada Dan 6 4 1
oldpilot Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 G'day OPI was in PNG 66-73. Saw a Helio Courier with a broken back - at Moresby I think. Was that you? N
oldpilot Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 N No.......at the time I was flying with Helicopter utilities, and the prang was on take off at Georgetown in Queensland
oldpilot Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 Hi OP, welcome.I was in PNG 68-69, not as a pilot though I was based at Daru and then Lae
Steve L Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I was based at Arawa near Loloho Bougainville, done the first 2 years there as an apprentice diesel mechanic
kaz3g Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I'm rapidly approaching 73 and I just renewed my aviation medical class 2. I plan on working and flying for at least another ten years if possible. One of my club members is late 80's and he just purchased another aircraft, C182Q which I think puts him up to 5 in his current stable. Kaz 3
planedriver Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Don't worry Kaz, I reckon 1943 is a very good year, though I don't feel the age on my label. 1
facthunter Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 "Those" models are proving their durability. Nev

MikeWebb Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Also approaching 73 and just renewed my Class 2 Medical notwithstanding being treated for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) and Melanoma. Good on all of us. I'm 72 today and just got my Class 2 nd Instrument Rating back after 4 eye operations for holes in both macular.
Yenn Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Welcome old pilot. Not going to tell you how old I am, but I intend to keep flying as long as possible.
planedriver Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I've got some great news too! I woke up this morning, and plan on doing so too for some time yet, hopefully.
facthunter Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I wish all those stupid old bugg@rs in the cars in front of me me would get a move on when the lights go green. Us oldies don't have that much time to waste. (Most of them are 10 or more years younger) Older is meant to be wiser. What a cross to bear. Nev 1 1
planedriver Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 If I don't have to swear occasionally when driving, then i'm probably not reading the road properly.
facthunter Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Like when the chief Navigator informs you "We should have taken the road we just passed" and you are already late.. Nev 1
