BlurE
Another vote for the nexus 9 here. Love it. Goldilocks size, 4x3 format, real shame it's discontinued, Although it meant I got a bargain on runout. Also ozrunways for Android, while behind iOS, now has traffic which is very welcome.
Downunder
Good timing for this topic guys. I am currently using an early Ipad but am looking at a Samsung Tab A 8", has anyone had any processing (or other) issues running OzRunways on this device. Samsung tab S 9.7. Works well with ozrunways. Android version is the "Lite" version but I like it's simplicity for what I do. (Similar to a trike pilot like yourself I would imagine) Really great to have "traffic" now as above. It's good that you don't need large internal memory as ozrunway data can be stored on a micro sd card. This allows you to buy or use a cheaper unit. Have backup on my android phone too......
Downunder
For those wanting to watch ozrunway flights....or want to allow friends/relatives watch your flight. Tracking | OzRunways Tx | RWY Tx For those that actually do fly with ozrunwsys traffic turned on, you can log in here and see all your previous flights... 1
Toady
Hi toady - try this Fixing Black Screen on Nexus 7 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com PS which version do you have? With or without the rear facing camera? Thanks coljones. With the rear camera. I have tried all that and more, there is a lot around on the internet about rebooting them. Ordered and fitted a new battery but still no joy. It's a shame because when it worked it was perfect with good signal strength and a very clear image, I would want to bag them too much I guess. I still have it so I might have another shot at sending it somewhere. I am currently using an iPad mini without a sim and adding a Badelf dongle. So far all very good. Nightmare
I have been running Oz Runways on an iPad Air with the data option since early December 2016, and I give it 2 thumbs up. I recently put a sim card in to access the internet in flight. I was previously hot-spotting it to my phone, but it burns through the phone battery fairly quickly doing it that way. The GPS has proved to be very accurate for me. I just have it in a standard $30 folder type case, and it serves me well, like this. I did my XC training with my map and paperwork in a similar folder. I have a nice little niche in the plane to store it securely on take off and landing.
Guest mak720
Hi all, probably off track a bit here but a quick question for everyone. What experiences comparisons have people had with OZRWY running on iOS and Android? I am contemplating purchasing the unit but cant decide between the Apple version or the Android? I see there have been comments that the Android version is behind the iOS with functionality but is this really a concern? Will the Android version eventually match the functionality this apple version has?

Still very much optimised for the apple platform with many more features, however the android version is catching up.
Downunder
I see there have been comments that the Android version is behind the iOS with functionality but is this really a concern? Depends how you fly really, and your "comfort", interest and technical abilities with electronic devices. I know a few people who are not that "technology orientated" with the apple version and they struggle a bit...... I use the android and don't feel too left out now we have traffic and weather.... You get a month free to trial it, so just have a go...
Bernie Knight
iPad mini and OzRunways. I have the OzRunways on my iPhone also. I find the iPhone is quite easy to read if I need it - I did let the iPad battery runout a few times prior to placing a point in..

I find the iPhone is quite easy to read if I need it - I did let the iPad battery runout a few times prior to placing a point in.. I'm not sure if using the iPhone as a backup is totally legal, due to the size of the screen. Somewhere I read that the screen size needs to be at least 200mm diagonally across, to be an approved EFB device. However, my iPad overheated and shut down recently during a flight, but instead of using the charts I had, I found myself using my phone, a Samsung Galaxy which has OzRunways installed as part of the subscription. Much easier, and the GPS function makes navigating very easy.By the way, a word of advice, during flight, if the sun is out, open up your vents to keep your iPad cool. I use an iPad mini with my iPhone as backup. Taking a Pitts somewhere straightforward in good weather I'd just use the iPhone, Gee, I've flown some routes enough times I wouldn't look at a chart while flying. Going somewhere unfamiliar and complex I'd consider a paper VTC also to help me plan it and cogitate.
Bernie Knight
Yes I've used the iPhone only as s back up. I do have charts - all of them with me - but space in the RV8 is limited to open them out unless pre - folded I usually do my flight plan in pencil still, mainly for terrain and laying the full chart out. I know OzRunways have all the features, but I take the few extra minutes and I find it helps when following OzRunways - and looking out the window

Setting and flying the plan are quite easy. There are some things we are still waiting for but product is still very advanced. There is not enough in it to make me want an apple. Guest mak720
So does anyone have an idea (timeline) for upgrades to the android version? Apparently the android version is some years behind the apple program (reflective of the difference between the online ipad and android instruction manual). Thinking the android for Samsung S2 will do enough at the moment but really...years behind to play catch up? Come on OZrunways!!
Keenaviator
For big trips I use an ipad air2 but for local stuff just use my Samsung S5 - although I am seriously thinking of upgrading the phone to an iphone 6s plus.
eightyknots
I mounted my iPad Air on a simple clamp bracket with Velcro. It sits out of the way and in a comfortable reading position easy to use the touch screen while still resting my elbow on the armrest I installed in my Sav. It also keeps it cool and out of the sun Do you have a picture of the bracket (minus the tablet)?
