skippydiesel Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Hi Doug 1, Would like to see your "real world" review of the Virus SW
skippydiesel Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Hi Doug, Thanks for the insight. I have always admired the Virus SW, probably a little out of my price range though. This is one outstanding aircraft. Your airspeed figures seem a little lower than I would have expected & the FF a little higher, for the speeds shown. This may be due to to much fantasising on my part. The supposedly factory/standard SW that performed so well at the CAFE competition was, I believe, a tail wheel craft, this may account for about 5 knots (better) and subsequent fuel burn/economy. Not sure how your camera windows are set up, but may have a very small drag penalty. Like you: - I try for 98 RON (my local supplier is BP, before this Caltex) to feed my Rotax 912 ULS. Have on rare occasions used 95 RON & even fewer occasions AVGAS. Have never noticed any performance difference from the "shandied" fuel. - I also filter all of my fuel into the aircraft. Mr Funnel not suitable for my system so made my own version that works very well. I do most of my trips at 4800-5200 rpm. Lot slower than you, 100 -115 knots. With only pilot, under 13 l/h - about 15 l/h. Ground adjustable prop set for "climb advantage" due to marginal home strip. Would love to have an MT 2 blade CS prop - about $12,000 + for my aircraft including engine mods to suit hydraulic governor. Sean
chevy Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 Thanks for all the info guys. I was ready to pull the trigger but once I optioned what I wanted it was over a 200k I expected 150-180k but over 200k. Ouch. But if I had the money, I'd still want one. Dam exchange rate and not winning lotto.
Admin Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 One very important thing to consider as much as the aircraft is the agent behind it, their reputation, their standing in the industry, etc. There are some great agents here in Australia and just a couple that there is no way I would be putting my life in their hands by buying one of their aircraft. There has been cases of Aircraft having their papers falsified by the selling agent, aircraft photos photoshoped to get registration and much more so always check out the agent with other people in the industry as well. Hope this helps
